So, um, what are we going to DO at this party?
Of course, a party is an activity in and of itself, but it’s always fun to add a little something extra to a Halloween party to give it the spooky feels. Plus, planning an activity for your guests can be a fun way to get your friend groups chit-chatting with each other, engaged in your party theme and getting into the Halloween spirit.
A lot of Halloween party activity ideas out there can feel a bit childish to me, so I’ve rounded up seven ideas I’ve actually used (or totally would) with my friends at Halloweenie Roast. I know your friends will love them too!
7 Halloween Party Activities Your Friends Will Actually Love

1. Play a Game
Over the years, I’ve organized a few games for my party guests to play on their own or as a group…and I’ve always been surprised by how well-received they’ve been! The year of my Harry Potter party, everyone was assigned a house when they arrived. Later in the night, we played a trivia game where each house earned points and the winning house received a prize. It was a hit! (And someday, I’ll get it on the blog…)
For Dia de los Muertos in 2014, we played Loteria which was a blast. The year of my Tim Burton party, I put together another trivia game which everyone played at their leisure. Download it here. I also created a Halloween music bingo game for the blog, which you can download for free.

2. Plan a Scavenger Hunt
Give your guests a list of Halloween objects, set a timer and turn them loose for a photo scavenger hunt! I love this idea from Sunshine and Hurricanes. Want to go more traditional with your hunt? Download these clues from Party Delights.
Live near a cemetery? Check out this graveyard scavenger hunt on Etsy!
3. Carve Jack-o-lanterns
It’s hard to go wrong with a classic. Invite your friends over for a pumpkin carving party! Matt and Leah from Tremaine Ranch have a ton of great tips for throwing an amazing pumpkin carving party over in this post.
(P.S. Skip the crappy pumpkin carving tool packs and just use kitchen utensils.)
4. Try a New Pumpkin Beer
Do you and your friends love beer? Why not ask everyone to bring a six-pack of pumpkin brews to the party and taste test them? I like this party set-up from Eat, Drink and Save Money.
You can also check out this guest post on how to host a beer tasting on a budget…and download my pumpkin beer tasting cards in this blog post.
5. Pair Wine with Halloween Candy
Prefer wine…and maybe some classic Halloween candies? Use this guide from Pure Wow to pair 11 different types of wine with candy for your friends to test and rate. Or you could make it really interesting, pair candies on the spot and see which combination is the favorite!
Stay tuned this fall for some spooky wine recommendations from my ghoul Sheila over at Red Shoes Red Wine!
6. Watch a Halloween Movie Outdoors
I did this the year of my Rocky Horror Picture Show Halloweenie Roast, and we had the BEST time! Create a screen on the side of a blank wall, like your garage, or throw an old sheet over the fence. Grab a projector and screen your favorite Halloween flick with all the spooky concessions. I love this gorgeous set-up from Loralee Lewis.
7. Enjoy a Bonfire Night
And finally, if you have the outdoor space for it…consider adding a bonfire to your party! These something about sitting around the glow of a crackling fire that feels very spooky to me. Check out these ideas from Joy in the Commonplace.

Love the musical bingo idea! Can you tell me how i could edit the cards to change some of the songs though?
Miranda | Spooky Little Halloween
Hi Daisy – I used this site to create the basic cards, then designed them myself. You could edit it to change it up and create your own. I unfortunately do not have an editable version available.
