15 Killer Halloween Party Themes

?>

It's the time of year when my mind is bubbling and brewing up ideas for one of my favorite things: Halloween parties!

After 10 years of hosting my own Halloween party, I’ve learned a few things about what it takes to make them great – and an event your friends attend year after year. I’ll teach you everything I know over in Killer Halloween Party, but today I want to talk about where I always start.

With a killer Halloween party theme.

In the past, I’ve shared my thoughts on why themes are essential to party planning…and how they make the rest of the party a breeze. But sometimes coming up with a theme is the hardest part!

Today I’m sharing 15 current – and killer – Halloween party theme ideas you can swipe for this year’s spooky celebration.

15 Killer Halloween Party Themes

1. Stranger Things

Are you as obsessed with “Stranger Things” as me? I love the mystery surrounding Hawkins, Indiana and what the heck is going on there…but I also love the friendship of all the kids. It’s reminiscent of what I love about “Harry Potter”. Hosting a “Stranger Things”-themed party is high on my to do list for Halloween parties in the future, and I love this one from Joni at Lay Baby Lay. SEE IT HERE

2. Beetlejuice

I’ve been a little Beetlejuice-obsessed since seeing the Broadway musical in early May. I hosted a Tim Burton-themed Halloweenie Roast in 2016, but if I had to pick one movie to throw another party, I’d pick Beetlejuice in a heartbeat. I’m loving this party look, and it’d be a great excuse for a backyard movie screening. SEE IT HERE

3. Pink Halloween Party

Okay, okay, I know…I’m in the minority when it comes to loving pastel Halloween, but every time I run across this party on Pinterest I find myself clicking and drooling over how gorgeous it is. This would be perfect for a little girl’s birthday party in October or a girls’ night celebration. SEE IT HERE

4. Witches Dinner Party

To swing things in the completely opposite direction if you’re looking for a classy dinner party idea for Halloween, I also LOVE this witches dinner party from my ghoul Alexandra over at Me and Annabel Lee. If you’ve outgrown your rowdy party days but still want to host a Halloween gathering, this dinner party idea is just the thing. SEE IT HERE

5. Zombie Party

Love zombies? Paula at Frog Prince Paperie has a blog post loaded up with disgustingly delicious recipes and party ideas. This is always a classic theme – and one that would be fun to put a twist on by inviting your guests to dress for the apocalypse or like their favorite characters from “The Walking Dead”. SEE IT HERE

6. Nightmare Before Christmas

It’s a classic for a reason, and you can never go wrong with a party centered around Jack Skellington and co. While I’d be more likely to use this for a themed holiday party in December these days, I’m loving these ideas from Michelle’s Party Plan-It. SEE IT HERE

7. Great Pumpkin Party

“It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” is another classic for a Halloween party theme. This would be a great one for a pumpkin carving party or for kiddos who have yet to meet this Halloween gem. SEE IT HERE

8. Fallen Angels and Devils

One thing I love about a theme is that it gives your guests direction for a costume. (The hardest part of being an adult is coming up with a cool, creative costume, isn’t it?) I always find that by narrowing my theme, I open my party guests up to a world of creativity. This Fallen Angels and Devils party by From House to Home is just the thing to get your friends into creative, unexpected costumes. SEE IT HERE

9. Classic Halloween Party

Sometimes the best option for a Halloween party is sticking with the classics! Use black and orange to decorate, make monster snacks for your guests to enjoy and welcome them into your ghoulish home. SEE IT HERE

10. Gothic Halloween Party

Looking for something a bit darker? I love this gothic take on a Halloween-themed birthday party because this is how I envision Halloween parties in my head. They need to be a little dark, have a little mystery and leave you wondering what just happened, right? SEE IT HERE

11. Mystic Halloween Party

Sorry, one more pink-and-black Halloween party because I can’t help it. I love them. Plus, I would transform my apartment into this look year-round in a heartbeat. This mystical look would be great for a ghouls night in for a little witches brew and tarot card reading. SEE IT HERE

12. Horror Movie Viewing Party

Love horror movies? Gather up your favorites, invite your friends over and hold a screening! Add popcorn, boxed candies and killer cocktails (or mocktails!) to make it a memorable evening, like this party idea from Sassaby Party Co. SEE IT HERE

13. Pretty and Poisonous Cocktail Party

This idea from Country Living is centered on Halloween decor, but I think you could take it and run with it for a killer Halloween cocktail party! It’s classy and deadly all at once. SEE IT HERE

14. Murder Mystery Party

For my 30th birthday, I hosted a “Goodbye to the Roaring 20’s” themed-party (see it here) and ever since then I’ve been dreaming of reusing that theme for a Halloween murder mystery party! Perhaps that will be my next Halloweenie Roast theme. Until then, Girl Inspired has some fantastic ideas and Halloween decor! SEE IT HERE

15. Hocus Pocus Party

And finally, you can NEVER go wrong with everyone’s favorite Halloween flick, “Hocus Pocus”. Host a witch cackling contest to determine who will be the fourth Sanderson sister, screen the movie and have a bewitchingly good time with these party ideas from Pineapple Paper Co. SEE IT HERE

I LOVE this post. I’m definitely having a horror movie night at my house this year. I’ll be using this as a guide. Also pink and black Halloween! Perfect for a bridal or baby shower. Substitute blue for a boy!

I love all of these ideas! Some, I’ve thought of myself, and others, I was thinking genius! A Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown party sounds perfect for the kiddos. I can’t believe I didn’t think of that before! And BOTH inspirations for the the pink parties…count me on board!
