Costume in my Closet: Hilda Spellman from Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

?>

One of my favorite things is finding costumes hiding in my closet.

All October posts are part of the Countdown to Halloween! This post contains affiliate links. See my disclaimer for more.

My other favorite thing? Netflix series. I especially love “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”. In fact, I spent a whole week on Sabrina-related blog content the week leading up to the second season.

Season two made me fall in LOVE with Aunt Hilda. I am so her it hurts: goofy, quirky, witty, charming. Plus, we both love baking.

So when eBay asked me to create a Halloween costume using their site to shop, I decided it was finally time to put together an Aunt Hilda costume! Writing a blog post wasn’t part of the assignment, but I loved my Hilda costume SO much, I had to share it here too.

I had several items in my closet I could already use, but shopping on eBay helped me complete the look…and was a place I hadn’t thought to look before.

Want to put together your own Aunt Hilda costume from your closet? You’ll find everything you need in this blog post!

How to create an Aunt Hilda costume from your closet:

First, a little Lucy Davis for inspiration! While this particular outfit is a bit more subdued than mine, I used it as a guide to create my own version of Aunt Hilda.

First, find a floral dress. Many of those Lucy Davis wears in the Netflix series are big, bold floral prints. I didn’t have anything quite big enough, so I snagged this gorgeous sundress on eBay. (Find a similar one.)

Next, find a bright colored cardigan. This one I already had in my closet. (Hey, I try to pair some color with all those black dresses I own!) Plus, it matched the pink tones in the dress perfectly.

In most scenes of “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”, Hilda is wearing some sort of large statement necklace – usually a beaded one. I found this on eBay as well and grabbed it because the colors complimented the dress. (Find one now!)

Aunt Hilda also often has a quirky brooch of some sort on her cardigan. For my look, I used my palmistry brooch I bought from Sweet Midnight at Midsummer Scream.

No witch look is complete without a great pair of boots! I bought this pair at Target to wear in the spring and summer, and it was the perfect addition to this bright, cheery outfit.

So how did it all turn out?

Like this!

I love how quirky it turned out – just like Hilda!

Black house in the background, garden in the front. My apartment almost looks like it could be the Spellman Mortuary, right?

(Just lie to me and tell me yes so I can live in that dream world, okay?)

Of course, no witch is complete without her familiar. This is mine that showed up as we were snapping these photos.

I really love how this turned out! And would totally rock this outfit in real life.

What costume is hiding in your closet?

Probably more than you think! If you need a little more inspiration, check out my Rita Skeeter and black bat.

Then stay tuned later this week because I’ll be showing you how I created a Sabrina costume from my closet as well.

Happy haunting,

Hi Miranda, it is the night of December 24th and I am binge-watching the whole sitcom series Sabrina the Teenage Witch, just for Hilda Spellman inspirations. After, I will continue on to Chilling Adventures of Sabrina to top off my Hilda Spellman wanna-be watching. I see you searched ebay for costume inspirations. I am on ebay too, always free shipping and low prices. Let me know if interested.
