A Love Letter to Halloween Lovers Everywhere

?>

Four years ago today, I began a very unexpected journey. I started a Halloween blog - something that barely existed in 2015 - and nothing short of pure magic happened.

You can read more about why I began my blog here, but the short version is I wanted a place to share my own Halloween parties. Never, not even for a moment, did I think anyone would actually read it.

Much less that I would be able to write 360+ (and growing) blog posts about it.

Or that I would amass a social media audience the size of a small city. (If you guys only knew how often I step back and think to myself…where the hell did all these people come from?!)

Or be courted by Spirit Halloween to work with them for a season.

Or be part of a viral article on PopSugar.com.

Or interviewed by Vox.com.

Or stand in front of a room full of people my second year at Midsummer Scream to talk about Halloween shopping. (Honestly, more than a month later, I’m still trying to wrap my head around that one.)

Or find THE most amazing Internet community on the planet in each and every one of you.

I definitely don’t list all of that out to brag. No way. When I step back and think about ALL the things I’ve done just because of this blog I started on a whim, it blows my mind.

This was just supposed to be a fun side project to fulfill my need to share my Halloween parties, not a full-blown THING.

But you changed all that by reading and subscribing and following along.

Of all the “things” on that list, the last one – finding the most amazing Internet community on the planet – is the one that is the most special to me.

It’s also where the magic has happened.

Over the past four years, I’ve had the privilege of getting to know SO many new friends who share a passion for October 31st. I found two local Instagrammers – Laura and Ashli (now in northern California) – and we bonded while Halloween shopping together.

I got a personal tour of the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery from Danielle, the ghoul behind Verona Black who creates some of THE most gorgeous Halloween accessories around. I went from oogling the artwork of a cool New York City artist to calling Matt my Halloween bestie.

I met friends like Sarah from The Spooky Vegan, Mike from All Hallows Geek, Chelsea from Cheers with Chelsea and Nancy Nightmare and the Wizard at my first Midsummer Scream.

Hell, I WENT to Midsummer Scream, for that matter. TWICE!

I started The Samhain Society, a group for like-minded content creators, to foster a sense of collaboration over competition and befriended an amazing group of spooky friends.

And I became…me.

So today, as we celebrate four years of Spooky Little Halloween, I want to tell you one very important thing:

THANK YOU.

I have tears streaming down my face as I write this because I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to adequately express how much you guys have given back to ME by supporting Spooky Little Halloween.

Exploring this passion has been a fun foray into content marketing – a chance to flex the professional knowledge I use daily at work in a setting that’s more my style. But without knowing it, you guys have also given me permission to be the girl I never thought I would be.

The girl with pink hair and tattoos (oh yes, I got them exactly five days after this Instagram) who wears black dresses almost every day.

The girl who has always felt like the misfit, the weirdo, the late bloomer who didn’t quite belong…and realizes now that’s okay.

The girl who is finally writing her damn novel…and a Halloween one at that.

By accepting me, supporting the blog and cheering me on, you’ve given me the keys to own who I am as a writer, a creative and dare I even say an artist. For that, I will be FOREVER grateful.

So whether you’ve been here since day one, day 493 or this is the first blog post you’re reading…thank you for being a part of this journey. I can’t wait to see where we go next.

Cheers to four years…and many, many more,

I know I have said it many times before, but thank YOU! For those of us that love October 31st, your site and others like it are our daily fix of all things Halloween. These websites and social media pages mean less of a google/Pinterest search for the same generic stuff and more of a variety of fun topics, one internet browser bookmark away.

Your site has been a bookmark of mine for over two years and I hope to keep it that way, in whatever form of page marking is offered by the iPhone 27, Samsung Galaxy 18, or whichever electronic creation comes many years down the road.

Hope you feel the kind of love those happy tears bring each and every day.

Sending Halloween love from Knoxville! On behalf of us creepy ghouls and goblins everywhere, thank you from the bottom of my spooky little heart 🧡🖤🧡

Thank u for showing US that if we put aside our dramas and craziness, that simply put, “EVERYDAY IS HALLOWEEN! ! ” I want to let u know that because of u, I have been thinking about blogging myself! But at the end of it all Thank U for giving us ALL THE TRICKS AND TREATS OF HALLOWEEN and giving us weirdos something we can call our own, “HOME HAUNTED HOME!!”

Yay!!!!! THANK YOU, Miranda! I’d been searching for the perfect Halloween blog for years–someone who shared my passion for Halloween. I even tried starting my own, which I never had time to cultivate. But then your blog popped up (and so did so many others), and for the first time, I felt like I wasn’t the only one with the same passion. You consistently put out great content (and year round, at that!). Thanks for creating a space for us Halloweirdos!

From a girl with bats tattooed on her I’m very glad that I found your website. I often felt alone in loving Halloween and I am so grateful that is not the case! Thank you for everything you do Miranda! ❤️🖤

Not alone at all! We might all be spread out across the world, but that’s the joy of the Internet – it gives us a place to hang out together.

    Hey Miranda,

Happy 4th year Blog-a-versary; I hope you take time today just for you- you’ve more than earned it. You have put in so much work into your blog that people have flocked to you and thrive because of the passion and creativity you’ve put out into the world.

Finding yourself and loving the person you’ve become are two very difficult things, in my experience. I am truly happy that you’ve been able to accomplish both of them through the spookylittlehalloween blog. Thank you for showing me the way to take those first steps and for creating a community that I can be accepted in.

You’re helping so many people just by being yourself (don’t believe me? read the entire comment section!) Thank you for all your time, effort, and soul that you’ve put out in the universe; I’m happy to have found a kindred spirit in you.
