31 Songs For Your Halloween Party Playlist

?>

Putting together my Halloween party playlist is always one of my favorite items on my to-do list.

I like customizing my playlists with lots of music that relates to my party theme, but there are some songs that are non-negotiables for me. And today I’m sharing 31 of my very favorites with you!

Each and every song on this list has been carefully handpicked by me. I’ve made a serious effort to dig up some tunes I’m betting you’ve never heard before as well as a few covers of longtime favorites. Thirty-one seemed like an appropriate number, right?

Listen to the playlist on Spotify, then check out why I picked each one + why it’d be perfect on your party playlist. Using a different streaming platform? Check out the end of the post for the full tracklist.

31 Songs For Your Halloween Party Playlist

1. 31 Days of Halloween by Nancy Nightmare and the Wizard

Halloween needed a signature carol, and I’m so glad my friends Nancy and the Wizard wrote one last year! This is a must-have on any Halloween season playlist for me…but especially a party playlist for its spooky feels.

2. Addams Groove by MC Hammer

Yup, we’re starting off strong with a little MC Hammer. Y’all, this song makes me dance every time I hear it and takes me back to the early 90s when I obsessively rented The Addams Family movies from the grocery store. I just love it.

3. Anything Can Happen on Halloween by Panther and Bunnycat

I was obsessed with this song after seeing it in “The Worst Witch”. (Which I totally didn’t watch until well into adulthood.) You can’t beat the Tim Curry version, but this cover is a close second.

4. Bad Things by Jace Everett

Maybe it’s the Texan in me that loves the country vibe of this song, but I love including the theme song from “True Blood” on my Halloween playlist. It has such a great little groove, and Jace’s voice is to die for.

5. Big Black Witchcraft Rock by The Cramps

There are a lot of Cramps tunes on my Halloween playlists, but this anthem is one of my favorites. It’s a little dancey, a little dark and perfect for Halloween.

6. Black Magic by Magic Wands

Any pop fans around here? (We’re far and few between in the Halloween community.) I love every last piece of “Black Magic” by Magic Wands from the guitar to the drums to the female vocals. It’s the perfect upbeat tune for a party.

7. Dead Man’s Bones by Dead Man’s Bones

Just in case you don’t know, Dead Man’s Bones is a rock duo made up of Zach Shields and Ryan Gosling. Seriously. The pair bonded over their mutual love of the Haunted Mansion, one thing led to another and they ended up recording an entire album of love songs to monsters and ghosts. There’s a fun fact to wow your friends with when this comes on at the party.

(P.S. This isn’t the band’s video because I had a hard time finding one…but I love this dude’s commitment to his dancing!)

8. Dead Man’s Party by A Thorn for Every Heart

I’ve been on a major early 2000’s pop/punk kick lately, so I had to include this cover of everyone’s favorite. If you need a new twist on an old classic, the cover of “Dead Man’s Party” is just the thing.

9. Disney Halloween Medley by Jon Cozart and Voctave

Tired of the same old “This is Halloween” songs? You’ll love this version mixed with “Grim Grinning Ghosts” from the Haunted Mansion. Plus, it’s completely acapella which adds a unique dimension to the songs.

10. Dracula’s Deuce by The Ghouls

I grew up listening to 60s music, so the first time I ever discovered The Ghouls’ Halloween album full of spooky twists on 60s classics (or, at least, serious nods to them) I was in heaven. Their songs are definitely a Halloween party playlist staple.

11. Frankenstein Twist by The Crystals

Another 60s classic from an actual 60s girl band. I love female harmonies, and this spooky dance tune by the Crystals is perfect for any party.

12. Goo Goo Muck by The Cramps

See? Told you I loved The Cramps for Halloween! I learned this one from listening to Dead Air because who doesn’t want to roam the streets as a goo goo muck when the sun goes down on October 31?

13. Halloween by Siouxsie and the Banshees

As long as we’re in the 80s listening to The Cramps, we might as well add a little Siouxsie into the mix. If there was an anthem for Halloween, this would run a close second to another song I’ll share in just a minute. Definitely one for your party playlist.

14. Headless Horseman by Kay Starr

When I ask for song recommendations, this one gets shared a LOT so I figured it needed to go on the list…because I love it too. Every playlist needs a good throwback tune!

15. Hunting for Witches by Bloc Party

I love how this song starts off-kilter and never leaves that vibe behind. It’s a moodsetter, for sure, and perfect for Halloween.

16. I’m All Bloody Inside by Liam Lynch

Need a song with a LOT of quirk? This is the one. You guys know I don’t like horror movies full of blood and guts…but songs? Those are okay in my book.

17. I Put a Spell on You by Sylvia Black

There were a ton of fantastic covers featured in “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”, and I’m thrilled so many I couldn’t find before are now on the show’s original soundtrack…including this version of “I Put a Spell on You”. Alice Smith’s supremely creepy take is my all-time favorite (listen to it on this playlist), but Sylvia Black’s is a close second.

18. It Must Be Halloween by Trout Fishing in America

An all-around classic Halloween song you need to hear if you never have before.

19. Keepin’ Halloween Alive by Alice Cooper

Remember back at Siouxsie and the Banshees when I said there was only one song more anthematic for Halloween? This is it. And just in case you’ve never seen Alice’s clever PSA promoting the song from back in 2009…enjoy it above + a clip of the song at the end.

20. Monster Mash by Misfits

You’ve likely heard “Every Day is Halloween” by the Misfits hundreds of times…but have you heard their rocking cover of “Monster Mash”? Mix it up this year by adding this version to your Halloween party playlist. (Looking for more “Monster Mash” covers? I’ve got a list of 50+ right here.)

21. No Costume, No Candy by The Swingin’ Neckbreakers

How dare anyone show up at your door without a costume! I love the lyrics of this song, and it’s the perfect jam for a party.

22. Queen of Halloween by Billy Snel

My own personal anthem, second only to “Spooky” by Classic IV. I couldn’t help but include this video of Elvira scenes with the song dubbed over it because SHE is the true Queen of Halloween the rest of us all aspire to be like.

23. Season of the Witch by Lana Del Rey

When I first started creating Halloween playlists, “Season of the Witch” by Donovan was one of the first songs I remember falling in love with…so I love finding new covers of it, like this recent one from Lana Del Rey for “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark”. It’s a cool little jam with the perfect amount of creepiness for Halloween.

24. She Put a Hex on You by Them

Fun fact: Van Morrison was a member of this band. I discovered this song on a compilation album called Halloween’s Gravest Hits, and it has been a staple on my party playlists ever since.

25. Spider Baby (The Maddest Story Ever Told) by Fantomas

This is another song I found by listening to Dead Air constantly. It’s from the opening credits of a 1967 movie by the same name. The way the song is crafted to repeat has a maddening quality to it that I love, and this updated cover by Fantomas is killer.

26. Spooky by Ashleigh Murray

Of course, I love the Classic IV version of this tune, but every good song needs a good cover now and again, right? I love Ashleigh Murray’s voice and immediately fell in love with her version of one of my favorite songs when I heard it on “Riverdale”.

27. The Lurch by Ted Cassidy

You know how to twist and even do the Macarena…but can you do the Lurch? I love this kitschy song which plays on the Addams family’s butler’s name…and includes his vocals! I’m betting this is a hidden gem you haven’t heard before.

28. The Vampire Club by Aurelio Voltaire

My complaints department was notified my playlists need more Aurelio Voltaire songs…and I couldn’t agree more. This one is a fun dancey number with some seriously great (and funny) lyrics.

29. Thriller by Leo and C.J. Pierce

I featured this song just a few months ago when I shared a few of my favorite “Thriller” covers…and this one was way up there because who doesn’t need a metal version of “Thriller” in their life? It’d be a great – an unexpected – addition to your Halloween party playlist.

30. Trick or Treat by Otis Redding

Dropping in one more classic pick. Otis Redding’s voice is timeless, as is his little ode to Halloween, “Trick or Treat”.

31. Zombie by Bad Wolves

I can’t even count how many times I’ve listened to this song. Another fantastic cover of a song often added to Halloween playlists.
