10 Halloween Costume Ideas from Comicpalooza

?>

Earlier this month, I attended Comicpalooza for the first time...and it didn't disappoint.

I’ll admit, this was the first comic-centric convention I’d ever attended, so I didn’t really know what to expect. Would I fit in? Would I be totally out of place? Would I even recognize any of the cosplays?

Yes, no and yes were the answers.

I’m SO glad my blogging BFF Sheila (Red Shoes. Red Wine.) talked me into going because I had the BEST time wandering around with her! There was SO much to see that there wasn’t a dull moment to be had.

My favorite part, of course, was the killer costumes. It was a little unsettling to have Storm Troopers walking by you at times. I kept running into The Joker, and there was a pack of clowns that was downright terrifying.

But I also found plenty of costumes I recognized and love immediately. Here are a few of my favorites that I think are a perfect jumping off point for Halloween costume inspiration!

10 Halloween Costume Ideas from Comicpalooza

1. Coraline

I’ve always loved this fictional kid’s story for its dark edge. Plus Coraline is such a simple costume to pull together with items from your closet. This look might not be screen-perfect, but that’s exactly what I loved about it.

2. Morticia and Gomez Addams

This couple was enjoying the heck out of themselves, right down to the various Addams Family movie tunes they were playing on a speaker hidden in Gomez’s jacket. “Addams Family Groove” started as I walked away after taking this, and it was stuck in my head the rest of the day.

3. Hufflepuffs

Harry Potter costumes will never not be on my costume to do list, and as a fellow Puff…I had to stop this Hufflepuff couple and ask for their photo. So well done, they look like they just stepped off the Hogwarts Express!

4. Witch Doctor/Voodoo Queen

I honestly didn’t ask exactly what this girl was meant to be, but her costume was SO incredible I had to ask for a photo.

5. Bacon

Okay, I’ll be honest – this one just made me giggle. Plus, who doesn’t love bacon?

6. Lucky Charms

Speaking of costumes that made me giggle, this guy was in front of us in the drink line. I was especially tickled when he ordered Jameson, straight up. That’s my kinda leprechaun!

7. Moana

Isn’t Moana darling? Her costume was beautiful in person and would be another one that’s fairly easy to gather items for.

8. Lady Stoneheart

I would be remiss if I didn’t include the Costume Queen herself. Comicpalooza was the weekend of the penultimate episode of “Game of Thrones”, and while I’m the only person on the planet who didn’t watch it…I could still appreciate her killer Lady Stoneheart costume.

9. Littlefinger

I also think Shelia’s husband Jerome NAILS Littlefinger from “Game of Thrones”. I mean, what else would you expect from the man whose costumes have won him first place in the general costume contest at Halloweenie Roast two years running? (See them here and here.)

10. Heathers

And finally, this was my favorite of the day…because I’m pretty sure these girls were born a good 15-20 years after this movie came out. The skirts and socks caught my eye, and when I realized they were all holding croquet mallets, I went running over to ask for a photo. SO. GOOD.

Which costume would you wear for Halloween?

Share your pick in the comments, or if you already know what you’re going to be this year (and are willing to share) let me know that too!

As for me, my costume is picked out and still in the dreaming phase. I’m going BIG this year. I’m not dressing up like anyone or anything, but it’s also a costume that is so completely ME I can’t wait to share it with you. Stay tuned for more!
