Who else is ready to return to Greendale to hang out with our favorite witches?

I couldn’t be more excited for more “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”, so I’m celebrating all week long on the blog! Today I’ve got a recipe inspired by Aunt Hilda, and later this week I’ll be sharing some killer Sabrina goodies you need as well as a fun twist on Aunt Hilda’s truth cake from season 1, episode 7.

But first…let’s take another look at that season two trailer because I can’t get enough:

EEK!

One of the things I loved during the first season was the sense of family the Spellmans have. They might be anything BUT conventional – I mean, most families don’t have a cemetery and Cain pit in their front yard, do they? – but you can tell they would do anything for each other.

Some of my favorite scenes from season one were Sabrina, Hilda, Zelda and Ambrose gathered in the kitchen discussing the Church of Night, the repercussions of Sabrina’s latest mishap or what’s on the calendar for each member of the family that day.

One scene, in particular, jumped to mind when I decided I wanted to share a Sabrina-inspired recipe or two this week:

Lemon is one of my favorite flavors and, just like Aunt Hilda, I love to bake and whip up goodies in the kitchen. (Something I don’t do nearly often enough these days.) It looks like she might be making enough jars of lemon curd for all of Greendale.

The wheels in my head started turning about what lemon treat I could replicate or create based on this scene, and it led me to my friend Sheila’s blog. More specifically to her mathematical recipe for jelly, jam and marmalade.

Cut to Saturday afternoon in Sheila’s kitchen as we whipped up our own magically delicious batches of lemon marmalade inspired by Aunt Hilda:

Want to make your own lemon marmalade?

Here’s how:

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina: Aunt Hilda's Lemon Marmalade

Become a real witch in the kitchen with this delectable lemon marmalade inspired by Aunt Hilda in "Chilling Adventures of Sabrina".
Prep Time 20 mins
Cook Time 10 mins
Total Time 1 d 30 mins
Cuisine Halloween Treats
Servings 9 cups

Ingredients

  • 5 cups chopped lemons
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 Tablespoon butter
  • 1 box powdered pectin
  • 7 cups sugar
  • 9 half pint glass jars with lids

Instructions

  • Start by sanitizing your glass jars and lids. This can be done via dishwasher or by boiling the jars and lids on the stove. Once washed, allow to air dry - don't use a towel to dry the inside of the jar or underside of the lid.
  • To make your marmalade, start by cutting 5 cups of lemons. Discard the ends of your lemons, and remove as many of the seeds as possible.
  • Add chopped lemons to blender to 5 cup line, and smash to consolidate. Add up to 2 cups of water to the 5 cup line on the blender.
  • Add butter and pectin, and blend the mixture until no chunks remain.
  • Pour the lemon mixture into a stockpot, and heat on high to boiling. At the first boiling point, add sugar and stir until dissolved.
  • Continue to stir mixture until it reaches a rolling boil. When it does, let mixture boil for 90 seconds. (This is critical!)
  • After 90 seconds, remove from heat and ladle into sanitized glass jars.
  • Seal jars, and place in a water bath for 10 minutes.
  • Once jars are removed from water, allow to sit on counter to cool for 24 hours.

Notes

After the jar is cooled, your marmalade will keep in its container for 3-4 years when stored in the pantry. Once opened, refrigerate.
After 24 hours, if any of your jar lids have popped use these first and store in the refrigerator immediately.

Here are a few tools that will make whipping up this recipe a breeze:

And here is how this delicious recipe turns out:

Of course, I wanted to dress mine up with a little nod to Sabrina. Inspired by the black-and-red opening credits, I added some black and red gingham fabric:

To do this, cut a five-inch by five-inch square using pinking shears. Unscrew the lid, but do not pop the top. Place fabric on top of the lid, then screw the metal ring back on.

This recipe makes a decent amount of marmalade, and if you can’t eat it all yourself you could always give them away as gifts! Hosting a watch party? These would be great favors for your guests.

Of course, when you’re ready to enjoy it…here is one of my favorite methods:

That’s a water cracker topped with a garlic and herb goat cheese and a splash of my homemade lemon marmalade.

YUM! But if that isn’t your jam (pun intended), Epicurious has a great list of suggestions for how to use your marmalade. (Adding it to a cocktail is next on my list!)

What’s your favorite goodie from season 1 of Sabrina?

I’ll admit, some of the milkshakes and cupcakes from Dr. Ceberus’ shop looked pretty good too when I was considering recipes to try. (But I have an inkling that’s going to be a dangerous place to hang out in season 2…)

I  hope you enjoy this one!

Happy haunting,

I WISH there was a real Dr. Ceberus shop. I’d love to see the whole shop layout sometime. It seems huge and full of goodies.

But girl. This marmalade. I am DEFINITELY going to give it a go. You had me at lemons and Iw as like, what are we making? These posts are all seriously making me hungry right now…
