Another calendar year of Halloween fun is coming to a close, and I have to say...2018 has been the best one yet! (I think I say that every year...but I promise I always mean it.)
You may not know, but I started Spooky Little Halloween in September 2015 on a total and complete whim. I spent a lot of time online looking for Halloween party ideas and music back then, and I wished I could find an all-Halloween blog full of ideas.
Well, when you can’t find it…make it, right? So I did.
I built spookylittlehalloween.com in a weekend and launched into my first Halloween season not ever thinking about who might read my spooky little corner of the Internet. (Honestly, if I thought anyone would, I probably would have put a bit more work into the blog name…)
And year after year, Halloween lovers like you have shown up nonstop, like trick-or-treaters determined to hit every house in the neighborhood.
THANK YOU.
I cannot say that enough because none of this would be possible without you.
At the end of the year, I like to take stock of a few of my favorite blog posts from the year before I take a little winter hiatus to get ready for the new year. Here are my 15 personal favorites for you to revisit and enjoy.

A Day in Sleepy Hollow
Last April I traveled to New York City for a work conference and, after seeing how close Sleepy Hollow was to the conference center on my last trip, decided a visit was in order. I made it happen and had the best day bumming around the town on foot and getting a personal tour of the cemetery from Danielle of Verona Black. TAKE THE TOUR

My Favorite Songs with Witchy Vibes
I feel like “witchy vibes” is a fairly generic qualifier for music, so take this playlist as a guide for making your own. I dig songs with female vocals for witchy playlists and run the gamut from ethereal to dark and moody. This playlist has a bit of everything – and I’ve continued adding to it since last May! It now has almost 120 songs. LISTEN NOW

Join my Halloween Book Club
Did you know I have a year-round Halloween book club? I started it earlier this year, and each season we read a new themed book. This year that’s included a classic (“The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” by Washington Irving), a witchy read (“Practical Magic” by Alice Hoffman” and a Halloween read (“The Halloween Tree” by Ray Bradbury). That Time My Blog Became a Zombie
And then on Saturday, July 28…everything came to a screeching halt. I was out in Long Beach attending Midsummer Scream for the first time…and discovered my entire blog had crashed. Well, not just crashed – I’d basically deleted it almost into extinction. I’m forever in debt to Shannon Mattern for saving my ass and getting it restored. READ THE SAGA

Midsummer Scream 2018
I still kind of can’t believe I went to this. It was, in a word, magical. It was also the PERFECT start to my Halloween season. I got to hang out with my buddy Matt all weekend. I got to meet The Spooky Vegan, All Hallows Geek and Mr. and Mrs. Halloween. I was properly introduced to Elvira. And I brought home a ton of spooky goodies. GO ON THE ADVENTURE

A Tour of Traditions Year-Round Holiday Store
While in California, I also got the chance to bum around with my friend Dinah the day before Midsummer Scream and visit some of southern California’s year-round Halloween stores. I wasn’t counting on going to Traditions, but when Dinah suggested it as a reason to avoid Friday afternoon traffic in LA, I couldn’t say no. SHOP WITH US

How to Make a Smoking Pumpkin
This was far and away your FAVORITE blog post of the Halloween 2018 season, and I was thrilled. We did a smoking pumpkin during a photo shoot in late June, just to see if it’d even work. I loved how the photos turned out and shared the easy DIY on the blog. MAKE YOUR OWN

My Frankenstein-Inspired Halloween Tree
After landing on my Monster Mash theme for Halloween Roast, I wove it through some of my Halloween season projects including my Frankenstein-inspired Halloween tree I created with Treetopia! I kept things simple and subtle, but I loved how my tree turned out. (And if I wasn’t moving in the middle of the holiday season, this baby would have gone up in the Spooky Little Apartment for Spooky Christmas!) SEE THE TREE

How to Turn Your Bedroom Into a Spooky Lair
Yes, this is my actual bedroom. Each October I have a blast transforming its subtly spooky decor into a Halloween haven. This year, I shared a few of my tips so you could turn your bedroom into a spooky lair too. LEARN HOW
