30+ Things You Need if You Love “Nightmare Before Christmas”

?>

Apparently, 1993 was a banner year for movies geared towards Halloween lovers. Not only did we get "Hocus Pocus" - we also got the magic that is "Nightmare Before Christmas".

All October posts are part of the Countdown to Halloween! This post contains affiliate links. See the end of this post and/or my disclaimer for more.

And today we’re going to celebrate the movie!

Much like “Hocus Pocus”, I don’t quite remember the first time I saw “Nightmare” but when I did, I fell in love with Jack Skellington’s undying determination to claim Christmas for himself. (Something I’ll be doing soon as we launch year #2 of Spooky Christmas!)

Next Monday, October 29 marks 25 years since the film premiered, and to celebrate I’ve rounded up more than 30 things you need if you love “Nightmare Before Christmas”.

PLUS, at the end of the post, you’ll have a chance to win eight of the items featured…plus a few bonus one-of-a-kind goodies!

But first, let’s throw it back to 1993 and the original “Nightmare Before Christmas” trailer:

That gives 9-year-old Miranda all the feels.

I love Nightmare Before Christmas because it taught me three valuable lessons at a young age.
    1. You’re weird and into spooky things and it’s ok.
    2. Try new things but never forget who you are.

    3. If you make a mess, clean it up.

I’d been such a fan of creepy movies and Tim Burton since I was a little kid, and the first tv ad I saw of TNBC seemed almost made just for me. I even entered a radio contest for tickets to opening night (I was 12), and won, but my mom wasn’t willing to drive all the way to downtown Chattanooga to get them 😂😢.

Nightmare Before Christmas was love at first sight for my whole family. I remember the day that movie came into our house. At the time, there was nothing else even remotely like it, and it was enchanting. Spooky without being gross, and risky without being cruel, the characters are endearing and relatable; the aesthetic style and stop animation are unique and fantastic.

    Miranda,

“Nightmare Before Christmas” is such a classic. I love it because…

    1) It gives you three solid months of viewing Halloween-goodness where nobody can say “why are you watching this? It’s not Halloween!” (Freeform also gets props for playing it regularly in October and December)

    2) My kiddo loves it and we have a blast “skating” around the living room to “What’s This?”

    3) The music, of course. I love musicals and all of the music in it is so satisfying to sing.

All of the items listed are amazing. Best of luck to everyone! :)

I have literally loved this movie since I was a baby. My favorite thing about the film would be the music. My mom still tells me stories of how she used to sit and watch me reenact Jack’s Lament, and how she can still hear me singing it every time she watches it. I hold this movie near and dear to my heart.

I love the Nightmare Before Christmas because it reflects my life. The tale follows Jack who’s this scary king of the pumpkins, who has grown bored with the same old thing, and then finds the bright shiny holiday of Christmas which intrigued him but he didn’t feel apart of. This is a reflection of how I feel in life sometimes. Like I just don’t fit in. It has always resonated with me.

The Nightmare Before Christmas has done so much for me, Danny Elfman the composer (and singing voice of jack) is my favorite singer/songwriter of all time. I’ve got to meet him personally and see him preform live as Jack in concert. His music has changed my life and he’s helped me realize that it’s okay to be strange and interested in the abnormal. I’ve never “celebrated” Christmas because I was raised in a house with a religion that didn’t celebrate Christmas, so Halloween was the only acception. I always felt very left out during Christmas but TNBC helped me with that and let me know that while Christmas was extremely popular, Halloween was just as important.

When I was a kid, I wasn’t allowed to celebrate Halloween. Like, I was not allowed to have anything to do with it at all. If they were doing Halloween word searches in class, I had to sit in the hallway and do a regular one. Nightmare before Christmas was my dirty little secret. I watched it and never told my mum. I fell in love with all the characters and Tim Burton’s work. I now have Jack tattooed on my arm and intend to make it into a full sleeve. I love Halloween!!! Take that mum!

“Nightmare Before Christmas” holds a very special place in my heart. My dad introduced the film to me as a young child and it really strengthened our bond. I’ve now passed that tradition on to my son. My dad recently passed away and I didn’t think I would be able to watch the movie again but somehow my son knew I needed it to heal. We cuddled in my bed and sang the songs. It made my heart ache but heal at the same time. I actually have a Jack and Sally tattoo as well. 😊

I think I love The Nighmare Before Christmas so much because it combines my two favorite holidays, but keeps them creepy. I’ve always considered myself a mildly creepy person (I studied forensic anthropology in school), so being able to watch this movie during both holidays is a treat. And every time I watch it, I notice something new or something else that relates to other Tim Burton movies.

I’ve loved Nightmare Before Christmas since day one. Just last a couple weeks ago I walked into a Walgreens store and found a section of all NBC and I stayed there and pressed every button wound up every globe to play the music while my boyfriend and his mom did some shopping. Lol I’ll admit people probably thought I was nuts being I had a tee on that said ‘ I make mummy moves’ and my pumpkin crossbody on. Lol
I also tried to convince my mom when I was a teenager to let me hand paint jack and sally on my wall but I was denied so instead I’ll eventu paint them on a canvas now that I brought that memory back lol Also there’s a tree where I live that has a heart on it just like on NBC when it shows all the holidays on trees, every time I see it I think of Nightmare Before Christmas. There’s just nothing but pure happiness when I see NBC anywhere. I’ve been a Halloween gal since birth, all things spooky I adore and every year NBC makes me bring that love for Halloween during Christmas. 😃

I have such special memories growing up as its the first movie i can even remember ever watching and havent stopped watching since! I memorized every song since i was 4 and carry that halloween passion with me everywhere i go. i also correlate it with my marriage since we got married the day before halloween to celebrate the two days together, and we are jack and sally forever <3 the songs, the artwork, the emotions you get while watching it are just some of the reasons why i love this movie so much ❤️❤️❤️

I know the whole movie word for word. It is my favorite movie, and has been, since I first saw it at 8 years old. Tim Burton is amazing, and we wouldn’t have The Nightmare Before Christmas, if it hadn’t stemmed from a poem he wrote.

First of all I love your account & everything! I’m so glad I found you on Instagram! So why I love Nightmare Before Christmas is a long Sandy Claws list! lol Tim Burton movies ideas is what my happiness is. Coming up with this idea by watching a store window taking their Halloween decorations down right into Christmas is awesome! And then Jack was born… well dead! The story is amazing and if you are not a Christmas person (like me) you have a excuse to celebrate Halloween again and talk about it!! 👻 Also hello new merch for the 2nd time of the year! The songs in the movie is amazing and who doesn’t want to sing “this is Halloween everyday?” Also I wish I had a ghost dog too just like zero! Talking about pets I have two kittens name Jack & Sally. Yes you heard that right! It doesn’t get any crazier than that! But all the merch and clothing that is in my room hehe My birthday is the 30th yup Halloween Eve baby! So I have my party Jack & Sally theme as well with another theme. I hope someday when I have my own place I have a room with all my merch! I have a a lot so it will be crazy! Jack’s heads everywhere!!! Also I pretty much just wear Nightmare Before Christmas clothing. Right now I’m wearing a sweatshirt with Jack & Sally on it. I even wear pajamas of them! I have about everything you could think of! I think this is long enough so I guess I could say I pretty much love Nightmare Before Christmas a lot lol 🎃🖤

I love the Nightmare Before Christmas so much because it was really the first thing that made me realize that other people feel the same way about Halloween that I do! I was at my friends house when I was in elementary school and she had the dvd. I was hooked. My mother wasn’t really into Halloween and I didn’t have any friends that understood how I felt about autumn and the amazing holiday. That movie really opened my eyes that there was a lot more out there for Halloween lovers and obviously introduced me to Tim Burton 😍.

I love this movie so much because it reminds me of my boyfriend! I know that’s extremely cheesy, sorry lol, but it honestly does! At Christmas time, we decorate the house every year Nightmare Before Christmas. We have two mini black trees that are decked out in our finest NBC ornaments and we are adding to our NBC little villages every year. The music from this movie is amazing. The story line, the characters and the work put into this movie makes me love it more and more every time I watch it, which admittedly is a lot. Tonight my mom and I are actually going to the Hollywood Bowl to watch the movie with live music from Danny Elfman. I’m disneybounding as the Pumpkin King himself and I could not be more excited!!

I love the movie because I just love imagining another world, with the doors to different holidays. Just imagine, halloween whenever you want it! And also it came out the same year I was born (just an extra reason to love it!). I also love stop-motion movies, and I think The Nightmare before Christmas is the best stop-motion movie ever made! Haha, can’t stop naming reasons why I love the movie. It’s just so lovely!

There are too many reasons to list why I love TNBC, but I’m a big Tim Burton fan. Also, anything Danny Elfman touches is golden. I mean, Oingo Boingo was great. Jack is one of my favorite misunderstood characters. I also find it amusing Tim Burton was relinquished from his duties at Disney while working on The Fox and the Hound, and years later he was making Halloween magic with them. The music is phenomenal and the characters are fun. I still love the movie and soundtrack as an adult, and now my daughter loves it just as much. ☺️

The nightmare before christmas has inspired my halloween decorations ever since I can remember. Each year I add at least one more NBC item to my collection. I have Diy projects such as the man eating wreath hung about my garage door as well as my newest project (which I barely got done) Zero’s tombstone. I purchased the zero available at walgreens this year which will complete that seen perfectly. I have also DIYed the jack in the box several years ago after watch tutorials online for DIY NBC stuff. The best part about it is that I can watch the film at Halloween or Christmas and still get the same feelings. (Honestly, watching it any day of the year invokes those spooky feels but it is amplified in October and December.

I’ve been watching Nightmare Before Christmas for as long as I can remember. I think the first time I watched it I was around 5. I fell in love with it instantly but remember being a little scared of the monster that’s under the stairs in the beginning lol. Now it’s become a bit of a family tradition, to get together around Halloween and watch it and sing all the songs together. It’s such a heartwarming story with a spooky twist. Definitely helped me fall in love with Halloween!

TIhe main reason I love Nightmare Before Christmas, is cause it’s made out of claymation. Any show that’s made with clay makes me love it even more. I was in ceramics for 5 years. I have respect for those that took the time and patience to make the movie. It was all based on their hands. Plus this movie I can watch it during Halloween and until Christmas!

I was already a huge Burton fan from Beetlejuice, but when Nightmare Before Christmas came out it was this amazing awakening. Mystical wonderful watching Burton’s art coming to life, and then adding Danny Elfman’s music and lyrics.. it’s magical. Still to this day, it’s a beautiful movie that is a staple in this house. ❤️
