My bedroom is the only part of the Spooky Little Apartment where Halloween stays out all year long.

In 2017, I decided I was sick of my music motif and wanted to transform my bedroom into a year-round Halloween haven. I kept my basic black and white vibe, swapped my black and white photos of bands for Halloween photos I’d taken and built a mini shrine on a teal shelf. Read more about how I transformed it over here.
It makes me happy and keeps me spooky all year, but at Halloween, I always feel like I have to amp it up!
But how?
Luckily, there are a few things I use to transform my bedroom into a spooky Halloween lair…and today I’m teaching you how to do it too!

How to turn your bedroom into a spooky Halloween lair

1. Lights
Lights are the easiest way to give your bedroom a spooky ambiance. Just a bit of purple or orange lighting makes the entire space feel spooky.
I love using string lights (and they’re budget-friendly!), but you could also use custom lights.

I fell in love with this purple neon bat at Target last year and am still dying to get my hands on the ghost.

After lusting after the light The Spooky Vegan has, I finally grabbed one of these ghost lights at Target for myself, and I love what it adds to my bedroom.

2. Creepy Cloth
This is seriously the EASIEST thing ever, and it gives me so many Halloween vibes.
Step 1: wrap headboard with lights.
Step 2: Drape creepy cloth (or in my case this year, spiderweb fabric) over the headboard.
Step 3: Step back and admire.

3. Pillows and Blankets
I’m a bit of a pillow addict. And at Halloween, I trade out a few of my regular throw pillows for Halloween ones. They’re such an easy way to add a touch of Halloween comfort to your bedroom.
If you pop over to my bedroom tour, you can also see my candy corn blanket, which I made, and hints of my Ouija board blanket which has become my new travel blanket.

4. Your Favorite Things
Adding a few of your favorite decor pieces to your bedroom will make it feel more like home. I was obsessed with this spooky sign the moment I saw it at Kirkland’s this year and knew I had to have it. I love it over my bed, and once Halloween is over it will find a permanent home above my bedroom door.

I’m also loving my pumpkin stack I created by accident. I set one on top of another while rearranging things, and I liked how it looked so much…I left it and grew my stock-o-pumpkins to three. These will definitely be staying out all year. (See the full stack over here.)

5. Wearables as Decor
Have a few gorgeous – or favorite – pieces of Halloween clothing? Consider using them for decor! I hung this dress from Em & Sprout on my door for a bit more teal, and I loved how it looked.

I also brought my Halloween jewelry to the front of my hooks so I could enjoy them all October long as a bit of my decor.

I’ve never taken the leap to change my bedroom over to Halloween as I do most of the other rooms of my house. Yours is awesome. My pink, blue, and white bedroom is pretty comfortable to rest/sleep in but not nearly as fun as yours!

How funny – those are the colors predominant in my living room when it’s non-Halloween. :) A comfy, cozy bedroom is important above all else.
