It's never too early to start planning your Halloween costume, and this year it feels like there's no shortage of pop culture options.

Pop culture costumes are some of my favorites. They’re a fun snapshot of what was popular that year, they’re insanely creative and, more often than not, they’re easy to make yourself by pulling together items found in your closet. (Something I’m a HUGE fan of.)

With that in mind, I’ve taken some of the most popular pieces of pop culture and rounded up trendy costume ideas from Pinterest to spark your inspiration…just in case you’re wondering what the heck you should be this Halloween.

12 Trendy Halloween Costume Ideas from Pinterest

1. Black Panther

This movie was so huge at the start of 2018 that I can’t imagine NOT seeing a ton of “Black Panther” characters wandering around all Halloween season. The costumes from the film are stunning, and I love this group costume from Comic-Con. Read more here about how they made their costumes (with items found at stores like Goodwill – love that DIY approach!) and ended up meeting the film’s costume designer.

2. Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman is another comic book hero it feels like we can’t get enough of lately, and everyone time I see someone dressed as her, I want to run up and give them a high-five. This costume on Geek Girls is phenomenal. I also love this softer version, inspired by fan art, my blogging buddy Sheila created.

3. Michael Myers

I love a good gender bender costume, and this group of classic killers from iconic films is awesome. I included it specifically for Michael Myers, however, as he makes his return to Haddonfield this October. This would be such a fun twist on an iconic costume.

4. Rick and Morty

I’ll admit…this is one I don’t watch. I actually had two people show up at Halloween Roast last year as Rick and Morty…and I shamefully had to ask who they were dressed up as. But these characters are SO vivid that I think they’d be a blast to costume. See more couple costumes here.

5. Eleven from “Stranger Things”

I’m pretty sure Eleven became an iconic Halloween costume her first year out of the gate. And I wouldn’t just say that because friends don’t lie! I’m sure Eleven is in my future (it’d be a good way to repurpose my Janet Weiss dress!), but here’s a DIY costume you can try out this year.

6. River Vixens from “Riverdale”

Confession time: I’m totally obsessed with “Riverdale”. I think I’ll always have a thing for teen shows like this, but I love the darker take on this classic comic book series. I would dress up as Veronica in a heartbeat. I also LOVE this gender bender take on the River Vixens by @chris_loma on Instagram, and this is totally one you could pull together for $20 or less. See more “Riverdale” costumes here.

7. The Incredibles

My coworkers may have lowkey shamed me for never seeing either of “The Incredibles” movies, but I love this costume all the same. Tabitha over at Fresh Mommy Blog will show you how she put this together for her entire family.

8. Coco

If you follow me on Instagram, you know I finally watched “Coco” this summer…and BAWLED my freakin’ eyes out. And then I immediately wanted to dress up as every character in the movie. This would be such a great family costume, and Coco himself is ridiculously easy to put together on a budget. Check out more Coco costumes over here.

9. Game of Thrones

One more confession: I’ve NEVER seen a second of “Game of Thrones”. Not one, so I legitimately have no idea who my friends Jerome and Sheila are dressed up as here (Littlefinger and Catelyn Stark, according to her blog post!). But I do know that Sheila knows a badass costume when she sees one. She commissioned these, and you can also check out her post on Littlefinger and brothel ladies…whose dresses look seriously comfy.

10. Sanderson Sisters

You can never go wrong as one of Salem’s three most iconic witches, and I’m still obsessing over these three real-life sisters we met dressed as the Sanderson Sisters at Midsummer Scream. (And Sarah’s real name was even Sarah!) They played the part SO well.

Not ambitious enough to DIY these? Spirit Halloween makes it ridiculously easy to be Winifred, Mary and Sarah. They’ve also added Billy Butcherson and shorter skirt AND deluxe versions of the costumes if that’s more your style!

11. Nightmare Before Christmas Crew

Jack and Sally are obvious enough costume ideas with “Nightmare Before Christmas” celebrating its 25th anniversary this October, but I LOVE this creative group costume. (The vampires kill me! So funny.) Head over to Coolest Homemade Costumes to see individual photos of everyone.

12. Rey from Star Wars

And finally, how stunning is this Dapper Rey dress? I can always appreciate DIY costume that get things screen-perfect…but I love it even more when someone takes a classic character and totally makes it their own. Gorgeous work, @unpackedmind!

They all look amazing, but my absolute favourite is the Sanderson trio for sure. Second place goes to Eleven because it’s a costume I would definitely like to wear, plus I adore that character. I’d love Black Panther too, but my skin is so horribly pale that I wouldn’t do justice to the beauty of those characters!
