2017 has been an amazing year on Spooky Little Halloween! Each year the site grows a little more, and I feel like I get a bit more creative in trying to celebrate Halloween every day of the year with you. I also delve deeper into this Halloween world of mine and wonder…why the heck didn’t I do this sooner?!
So whether you are brand new to the blog or have been following since day one, thank you for making this a fun place for me to spend time on the Internet. Without your eyeballs reading these words, I’d just be the Internet’s crazy Halloween girl (or maybe I still am…).
I hope you’ve found some fun ideas for parties, food, DIYs and more this year. Don’t forget you can tell me what you want to see on the site in 2018 through Dec. 31 (and be entered to win a Halloween grab bag from me).
After today, I’m going to be taking a short break from blogging regularly until 2018 – partly so I can enjoy the holidays and my annual trip to winter with my family, and partly so I can spend my time focusing on some major projects for 2018! When I resume blogging, you can expect to see a refreshed site design, some new series you guys can get more involved in and, of course, all the stuff you already love about celebrating Halloween with me. 2018 is going to be a ton of fun.
Until then, I thought I’d take a look back at 2017 and share some of my favorite blog posts with you. This is the perfect opportunity to get caught up on reading, save the ideas you want to use for Halloween 2018 and enjoy a bit of Halloween fun as we welcome in a new year.
Here are my favorite Halloween blog posts of 2017:
Tim Burton Trivia Game
Tim Burton was my theme for Halloweenie Roast 2016, and I created a trivia game for my friends to play. We had so much fun with it, I decided to share it with you guys too! Head over to the post to download the printable version – and no Googling the answers!
7 Questions to Ask Before Buying Halloween Decor
Do you find yourself going into stores in September and October and buying EVERYTHING you love…but once you get home, you have no idea what to do with any of it? I know I’m guilty of this. Before you go on a spending spree next Halloween, here are some of the questions I consider before I ever purchase something.
(Spoiler alert: these tips will help you curate your collection so it looks more like all those gorgeous photos you love on Instagram and Pinterest!)
13 More Halloween Enamel Pins I’m Dying to Own
I am obsessed with enamel pins, especially Halloween ones! In fact, I keep an entire board dedicated to them on Pinterest. In 2016 I put together a list of 11 I was loving, and last year I added another 13 to my wish list. Browse, shop and enjoy.
Spooky Halloween Succulents
Full disclosure: both of these plants are now dead because, as we learned with my little pumpkin experiment, I have a gray thumb. But that doesn’t make this idea any less fun, and I’m looking forward to replanting in both of these containers this spring!
Learn how I repurposed some random Halloween decor into these spooky planters.
DIY Under $10: Bat Terrarium
This was one of my most popular DIY projects this year – and it is ridiculously simple to make with just a few items from dollar and craft stores.
Learn how to make your own with supplies I’m betting you can find well before October rolls around again.
Halloween Beach Party
I’m just gonna say it: sometimes I even impress myself with the Halloween treats I can dig up on the Internet. Last spring, I began to wonder if you could find Halloween beach towels, beach balls and even swimsuits.
The answer? Yes, yes you can! And I rounded up 30+ things you need for a killer Halloween beach party – PLUS, the perfect creepy playlist for the occasion.
Halloween Music Bingo
Another adventure from this year: learning how to make a perfect bingo card! I love Halloween music (in fact, my Spotify top songs playlist is about 95% Halloween tunes this year – whoops!), so I created a Halloween music bingo game you can play.
The best part? You don’t have to actually know every song to win – each song I handpicked because the title is clearly in the first 30-45 seconds of the song. As long as you’re a good listener, you can totally rock this game. Head to the blog post to get the free download and link to the playlist!
Q&A with Nancy Nightmare and The Wizard
And as long as we’re talking about Halloween music, be sure you’ve met Nancy Nightmare and The Wizard. They’re a band out of southern California, and they play some killer Halloween tunes. (“Haunt You” and “Dead Boyfriend” are two of my faves.)
50+ Covers of “Monster Mash” You Need to Hear
Sometimes I sit around and wonder things like, “I wonder how many versions of ‘Monster Mash’ exist?” And then I jump on Spotify and find out!
It turns out…there are way too many. WAY too many. But I rounded up 50+ that you can check out and made a few recommendations of the best versions. Happy listening!
Halloween 2017 Home Tour: My Bedroom
Welcome to my lair! Each Halloween season I decorate my apartment and share some of the photos with you guys. I especially loved how my bedroom turned out this year. (So much, in fact, that most of this decor is still up right now.)
Relive Halloween and take a tour of my spooky bedroom. Don’t forget to check out how I turned it into a year-round Halloween room last summer…and how you can too!
15 Leftover Halloween Candy Recipes
As we wrapped up Halloween this year, I shared a few recipe ideas for using up your leftover Halloween candy…and I’m still drooling over them! My Halloween candy is nearly gone now (yes, I still have some!), but I’m excited to experiment with some leftover candy recipes myself next Halloween.
9 Ways to Celebrate Spooky Christmas
And finally, we’ve been wrapping up this year by celebrating Spooky Christmas! It’s been a ton of fun living in an apartment that feels like Jack Skellington dropped by to decorate for the holidays.
This is just the beginning, and I’m looking forward to making Spooky Christmas bigger and better next holiday season.
Looking for a few more posts?
Here are some fun series from 2017 worth checking out:
- I added a few new ideas to my DIYs Under $10 series
- Over the summer we traveled the country to spooky locales every #TravelTuesday

I would love to hear which post was the most memorable to you and why you loved it!
Thank you guys again for an amazing 2017 – I can’t wait to see what kind of fun we scare up in 2018.
Happy haunting,

Alice
I discovered your blog just in time for Halloween and, even if I didn’t manage to celebrate as I wanted, your enthusiasm helped me to have a spooky birthday at the end of October and enjoy the season even more!
Merry Christmas to you and your family, I can’t wait to see your posts again in 2018!

Hellen Die
I know I’m biased, but I love the bat terrarium so much that will always be my all time favorite post of yours!

That is one of my favorites too! My mom wants me to make her one. :)
Chelsea Celaya
There was so much that happened on SLH this year, it’s really hard to narrow it down to just one thing. I actually really loved it best when you jumped out of the Halloween-time box and rounded up posts that focused on infecting the rest of the year with Halloween.
If I had to pick, I’d have to say that your DIYs are definitely my favorite posts. I might not replicate the exact project you present, but it certainly inspires and makes way for my own projects and ideas on new decor. Looking forward to what you’ll have new to present in 2018 as I play catch-up on what was posted last year. XD;;;

Glad to hear you enjoy the DIYs! They’re a lot of fun to make, and I’m hoping to do even more this year.
