Halloweenie Roast 2017 | Villain Costumes

?>

My friends killed it with their Halloween costumes this year. Back in 2011, I instituted a theme for my annual Halloween party in hopes of getting more creative costumes. It worked like a charm, and every year since then my friends have continued to out-do themselves.

Since I’ve been blogging, I’ve shared their amazing witch hat creations (think Kentucky Derby gone Halloween) and last year they totally embraced the Tim Burton theme they requested.

This year, I had a blast seeing them dress up as their favorite baddies for my villain-themed party.

Here’s a peek at their best villain Halloween costumes!

Villain Costumes

To complement my villain theme, I created a mugshot backdrop for this year’s costume photos. I also bought an Instax camera and film to take my mugshots.

I loved how they turned out!

So much attitude on that kind face.

Amanda always has amazing costumes. This year, I loved her clever take on Ursula.

I was thrilled my new friend Sheila from Red Shoes. Red Wine. made the trek across Houston to come to her first-ever Halloweenie Roast…the night before she ran a marathon. Seriously, that’s commitment.

She also makes costumes that blow all of mine out of the water. She guest-posted for me earlier this year, and you can check out the original version of her Loki costume on Instagram. I’m dying for her to put the build on her blog!

“I needed a costume with a beard,” Alex said when he walked in. Negan to the rescue!

I may or may not have stolen Amand’s original costume idea…or she may have stolen mine. Either way, I think her backup plan of coming as Elphaba was perfect.

All Tammi would tell me about her costume was that it included red nail polish. Never in a million years would I have guessed she would come as Billy from Saw 3. (I take full credit for messing up her name on the placard amidst the photo chaos…)

I mean, she even brought the trike! Nailed it. She won third place in the theme contest, by the way.

Lindsay dyed her hair red for her Poison Ivy costume…and managed to win first place in the theme costume for the second year in the row! (Her Sally from “Nightmare Before Christmas” last year was incredible.)

I never did get a good photo of my brother, Justin, by himself this year…but his bandit to my niece’s Sherriff Callie was pretty fun!

My coworker Olivia nailed Elle Driver!

And Olivia’s boyfriend, Chris, nailed his Joker costume! He won second place in the theme contest.

Noah attended his first-ever Halloweenie Roast! (Or his second since technically he was at Hallowenie Roast 2016…) He made the cutest dalmation along with Cruella and Jasper.

I mean, COME. ON.

His little tail kills me!

Another newbie for 2017 – my friend Chrystina of chrystinanoel.com made the trek all the way from Philadelphia (by way of Austin) to come to Halloweenie Roast this year. As a fellow party planner, she was an amazing helper. (Thanks for letting me put you to work, Chrystina!) I loved her clever take on a villain.

And, of course, yours truly as Maleficent. It was such a simple costume, but it was easily one of my favorites I’ve made since I started hosting Halloweenie Roast.

Halloween Costumes

Because not everyone is crazy about my themes, I always encourage my friends to wear any costume they want.

Here’s what my non-villainous friends wore to Halloween Roast 2017.

Chloeficent! I’m not sure Chloe knew what she was getting herself into at my party when my mom and I invited her, but I think she had fun all the same.

Yes, I was the idiot who had to ask Rich and Melissa who they were. I’m so not cool, guys…

Nicole, one of my newest coworkers, was adorable as catcalling. (And I would argue she probably should have been a villain costume, but she put herself in the general costume contest.)

My sister-in-law Stacey (and my nephew Max) came as the Kool-Aid Man!

My niece Hadley came as her favorite good guy, Sherriff Callie. (My favorite part was her running around with blue electrical tape, proclaiming, “This is a sticky up!” Apparently, Callie rounds up the bad guys with tape. I’m not well-versed in kid shows…)

And finally, Shelia’s husband Jerome in his James Bond costume from “Spectre”. He easily won first place in the general costume contest. You can see the build of this one over on Shelia’s blog.

Which costume would you have picked as your winner?

I voted for Jigsaw/Billy, The Joker, James Bond and, of course, Sherriff Callie as my favorites.

Happy haunting,

So many good costumes! You have such creative guests. I’d have to say my favorite was Catcalling and Sheila’s Loki. I love when people get ridiculously clever. (That tesseract ring! <3)

Both of those were so great! My friends always come dressed to kill, and I love it.

You know what I realized I’ve never asked, but how does winning go down in your costumed contests? Does the winner get bragging rights? A creative trophy? A really cool gift certificate somewhere? Working out details for an upcoming party, and i’m a little stumped past just wanting to encourage costumes. :/

I ALWAYS forget to take photos of the prizes! Each winner gets a custom button each year, plus some sort of prize. In the past, it’s been prizes related to my theme, like Tim Burton movies for my TB theme. This past year I just did a random draw of Halloween decor I had amassed. :)
