This past week was downright magical. I found a Spirit Halloween that was already open. In August. Yes, really.
A lot of times, Houston is WAY too big for my liking. But this week, I appreciated living in a greater metro area of nearly 5 million people because it meant Halloween came early.
So, of course, I had to make my way across Houston to see it with my own eyes…and step inside. If you follow me on Instagram OR subscribe to my weekly newsletter, Treats Not Tricks, you’ve already gotten a sneak peek.
It was, in a word, WONDERFUL. Stepping inside a Spirit Halloween these days always feels like walking right into Halloween itself. The stores aren’t just costumes – you can find haunt supplies and some really amazing home decor too.
But enough of my gushing. Let’s get to your first look at what you’ll find at Spirit this year.

Yet another benchmark in the Halloween season: the day your local Spirit Halloween opens!

Let’s go shopping!
Home Decor:

They have SO much awesome decor this year – I was excited to walk in and immediately be greeted by this display.
I am pretty much obsessed with all the Ouija collection items.
Especially this cute Ouija planchette plate.

I don’t need these. I NEED these.

My kinda hangout spot!

EEK!

I have zero use for a sickle, but these were pretty dang cool!

By far, the coolest gate I’ve seen.

Costumes:

Let’s take a spin through some of the costumes!

I think the ones everyone is excited about this year are the Sanderson Sister costumes from “Hocus Pocus”.

Sarah and Mary’s costumes. Winifred wasn’t out yet.

I cannot get over how incredibly popular Day of the Dead items are this year.

Steampunk is not a world I live in…but I feel like I could.

Spirit always has a ton of fun Nightmare Before Christmas items every year, including costumes.

And, of course, they have a ton of fun Halloween clothing!

Pssssh! Not this girl. I’m cool enough for Halloween all year long.

Love this Ouija board dress!

And, of course, no trip to Spirit would be complete without a purchase and a donation to Spirit of Children! Whether you can donate $10 or just $1, I highly recommend you do it.
All of your donation goes to support Child Life funding for art, music aquatic and pet therapy programs at 140+ children’s hospitals in the United States and Canada. Funds also support the purchase of educational items and toys used to entertain children during medical procedures.
In short, you do a lot of good when you donate!

Miranda,
Thank you for sharing the shelves of Spirit Halloween with us! I was absolutely DEVASTATED (not an exaggeration) to hear that there would not be a Spirit Halloween in my area this year, especially with the new Hocus Pocus line they have.
On a side note, I’m glad to see on Instagram that you’re ok amidst these storms, but I do hope you and your loved ones stay safe. You all are in our thoughts here in Tennessee ❤️

Don’t forget you can always order online! ;) I love that about Spirit.
Thank you for the well wishes – we have been beyond fortunate the last few days.

Your store is a lot more put together than any of the ones I have found so far. I have been updating my own site http://www.halloweenplaylist.com with the stuff I’ve found. Target has been putting out their candy! Thanks for this site. It is wonderfully fun, and I’ve been enjoying it since January. It’s awesome to know there are others out there, like me. Maybe we’ll Halloween party together some year!

Hey Deigh! Thanks for dropping by and sharing your link. Looking forward to checking it out and celebrating Halloween together!

I will definitely be around. Thanks for the site! It made that beast, summer more bearable.

I love donating to Spirit of the Children. I always end up making a small donation every time I make a purchase from Spirit. I enjoy that you really can see the results of your donation every year. It’s the best. Aren’t the tavern signs so awesome? I feel like gore usually overwhelms the decor section of Spirit, especially over the last couple years, but I feel like this year, it’s really starting to balance out for those of us who prefer a more spooky set up in our yards and homes. Maybe that’s just me though. ;D

I agree on the balance – it’s so fun walking in and seeing the “Miranda” section of all the cute Halloween decor.
