Halloween Home Tour 2016: Take a peek inside my Spooky Little Apartment for my 2016 Halloween home tour! You'll be amazed at how much Halloween one girl can fit in 700 square feet! | spookylittlehalloween.com

Decorating for Halloween is my favorite. It marks the beginning of the Spooky Little Apartment feeling extra cozy for the rest of the year as I fill it with holiday decor. For years now, no matter what type of space I live in…I always make sure that by mid-September, I’ve dragged out my Halloween decor to begin finding places for it all.

There’s just something about bats and ghosts and spiders and pumpkins everywhere that make happy this time of year. I shared my reason for decorating for Halloween yesterday – check it out if you haven’t yet!

Today I’m sharing my little bit of happiness with you with a tour of my apartment.

Continue on to Spooky Little Halloween’s, well, Halloween wonderland!

As a reminder, all photos are the property of Spooky Little Halloween and cannot be used elsewhere without permission. See my disclaimer page for complete information. Want to use a photo? Email me.

Because you guys ask me a lot, I’ve also included sources for all my decor where I can remember. Some of this stuff I’ve had for years and don’t remember where it came from! I’ve also included years to help you with your shopping. Anything not listed means I don’t remember where it came from.

Welcome!

My spooky little front door.

Bat Wreath – At Home, 2016

sir-clayton

If you haven’t had the pleasure of meeting him yet, this is Sir Clayton. He was purchased in 2012 for my Halloween party for one very simple reason: he was originally $80 and was mismarked down to $18. I’m still not sure how or why, but I couldn’t pass him up. Now he welcomes my guests each year.

In the off-season, he guards the front doors on the second floor of our building. I’m so grateful my neighbor was charmed by him and didn’t mind his relocation to this spot. Sir Clayton actually has his own Instagram account too, but I haven’t done anything with it in years. Maybe it’s time to revive it?

pumpkins-mum

Yes, my mums look a little sad. Don’t worry, they got some desperately needed water and sunlight after I snapped this. But aren’t my pumpkins cute?

Living Room

couch

Welcome to the spooky little living room! If you followed my home tour posts last year, you’ll notice my living room has gotten a MAJOR makeover! I totally rearranged it, covered the UGLY (but free) couch and love seat and added some pops of color. I love it.

happy-halloween-pillow

In the past year, I’ve become obsessed with throw pillows. OB. SESSED. So I obviously needed a ton of Halloween ones.

Happy Halloween throw pillow – At Home, 2016

magical-pillow

I went into Ross a few weeks ago to look at options for Halloweenie Roast contest prizes. I ended up coming home with this pillow because I couldn’t say no to that saying.

Magical throw pillow – Ross, 2016

loveseat

I also couldn’t say no to that spirit board pillow – it just might stay out year-round.

tv-wall

No, I don’t have one of those stunning, Pinterest-worthy homes. Just one that looks like a normal (Halloween-obsessed) girl lives there.

tv-sign

I love this little banner I made with a scrapbook paper book pad.

countdown-sign

I don’t quite remember when or where I saw this Halloween countdown set, but when I did I knew I HAD to have it! Unfortunately, the Etsy seller had stopped making them at the time…but she listed one just for me and I was thrilled with it. (Sadly, her store is now closed.)

cloche

I’ve been dying to add a good cloche to my Halloween collection, and I went for it this year. It now houses the skull that sits on my coffee table year-round.

Cloche – Target, 2016
Skull – Walgreens, 2014 (spray painted silver by me)

coffee-table

If you’ve read my 9 favorite ways to decorate for Halloween post, you know I am obsessed with apothecary jars. They are SO easy for creating creepy displays like this! Plus, all the fillers came from a dollar store. The jar was given to me by a coworker, but they’re pretty easy to find these days at craft stores and home decor stores.

I’m super in love with the little centerpiece mat under it too, which I just bought at a craft show for $5. I also have a gorgeous handmade table runner from the same woman.

bookshelf-living-room

Bookshelf #2 – I’m a bit of a bibliophile. What can I say? #Englishmajorprobs

Witches and Werewolves books – Half Price Books, year unknown
Pumpkin trio – Target, 2015

tiffany-lamp

mom got me into this Nora Roberts series about witches last winter. I still need to read books #2 and #3, but I thought they’d make for a fun little Halloween display.

Isn’t the little boo ghost adorable? He’s from a company called Blossom Buckets, and I can only find them at local craft shows. I buy them like crazy because they are so stinkin’ adorable and 100% my style of Halloween. They’re also all under $10 (most I buy are in the $2-5 range), which makes them super affordable.

skeleton-phone

The call is coming from inside the house! I couldn’t resist this spooky skull phone. Can’t wait to put him out at my party!

Skull phone – At Home, 2016

A closer look at some of my light-up items. I’m not allowed to burn candles in my building because it’s so old, so I go with the next best thing!

Headless horseman – HomeGoods/TJ Maxx/Marshall’s, 2016
Pink sugar skull – gift from my lovely friend Lee
Crystal ball – At Home, 2016

headless-horseman

Ugh, I just LOVE this and am SO excited about him! A bunch of my Instagram friends also scored this. I saw him at a store early on and passed. Then I regretted it because he is PERFECT for my party decor this year. When I saw it again, I snagged him!

corner

I love this little corner SO much! It just screams Halloween.

Haunted radio – Target, 2016
Witch, skull and pumpkin signs – 99 Cents Only

pumpkin-sign

One of my coworkers tipped me off about these signs because she bought this adorable jack-o-lantern. At just 99 cents a piece, I couldn’t help getting a trio of them for my apartment.

typewriter

Haunted typewriter!

sugar-skull-pillow

And just next to my record player is this lovely sitting chair. I’m still not 100% sure I love this pillow combo, but oh well.

Sugar skull pillow – At Home, 2016

boo-sign

You’ll remember from my At Home First Look post how much I loved this little ghostie guy. He now watches over my living room on the back of my front door.

mirror-face

While being carefully watched, that is! EEK.

Mirror ghost cling – Martha Stewart collection, either purchased at Michaels or Jo-Ann, year unknown

pennants2

And finally in the living room…y’all know I’m obsessed with pennants. Year after year I LOVE hanging up these guys I’ve had for years. I have three strings of them I made in my apartment.

Vintage Halloween bunting – Mary’s Montage on Etsy

Bedroom

bed

As spooky as my living room is…I think my bedroom is my favorite.

Spooky fabric – At Home, year unknown
Lights – unknown, but I recommend At Home or Target
Paper bats – Martha Stewart collection, either purchased at Michaels or Jo-Ann, year unknown

bed-night

I mean SERIOUSLY. How could you NOT want to sleep here?

It’s always such a bummer to take it all down in November.

bookshelf

More bookshelves mean more displays. Did I mention I’m a bibliophile?

Spooky fabric – At Home, year unknown (but they always have it for cheap!)
Bat and skull vase – At Home, 2016

vases

Decorating with books has become my new favorite thing this year.

Halloween: An American Holiday, an American History – Amazon
Vampire Stories from the American South – Half Price Books

boo-sign-2

Another Blossom Bucket piece. I love their little wire arms. These guys watch over my dresser/vanity.

bedroom-mirror

Also over my vanity. She’s WATCHING.

Mirror ghost cling – Martha Stewart collection, either purchased at Michaels or Jo-Ann, year unknown

skeleton-apothecary-jar

Can you tell I have a thing for skulls?

Skull – Dollar Tree, year unknown
Lights – At Home, 2016 (not part of the Halloween collection)

chair

My little corner chair for putting on my shoes in the morning. I’ve gotten better about not dumping my purse here now that it has an adorable furry skull pillow!

Candy corn blanket – made by me with fleece from Jo-Ann’s, 2013
Fuzzy skull pillow – Michaels, 2016

pennants

More pennants, made by me. More lights. This is over the window in my bedroom.

Bathroom & Kitchen

bathrom

Yes, you read that correctly. Even my bathroom gets decorated for Halloween.

bathroom2

coffee-bar

My witchy little coffee bar might be one of my favorite spots this year.

coffee-bar-top

An Instagram friend shared that sign last year, and I HAD to find one for me! I got it about a week before Halloween on a final party supply run.

sink

A spooky sink makes the fact that you live in an old building with no dishwasher much more bearable!

Spooky fabric – At Home, year unknown
Hand towels – Kohl’s, 2015 (my kitchen is all coffee stuff, so these are a PERFECT fit!)
Candy corn drying mat – Ross, 2016

skellie

These little skellie lights have been one of my longtime favorite items in my collection.

candy-corn-kitchen

My mom made me this candy corn washcloth – matches my new drying mat perfectly!

drink-up-counter

I’m really enjoying looking at this every morning while I make my lunch.

Drink up witches sign – Target, 2015
Skull dish – Walmart, year unknown

kitchen-table

My kitchen table ended up being the PERFECT spot for that Ouija board serving tray from Target. I can’t get over how HUGE it is.

ouija-board2

I decided pulling some more of my favorite spooky books would be a great pairing with my candelabra and pumpkin.

Skeleton cup – HomeGoods, 2016
Ouija board serving tray – Target, 2016 (Check brickpick.com or brickseeker.com for Target inventory if you’re trying to hunt one down – they are very, very far and few between and I still can’t believe I have one!)

ouija-board

printables

The rest of the year, these frames hold some of my favorite catchphrases and quotes from “Gilmore Girls”. But at Halloween? Spookiness takes over!

Skull and bat printables – Ella Claire (free download!)

printable1

This and the next printable were made by yours truly.

countdown

And last but not least…my GIANT Halloween countdown hanging. I scored this on clearance last year, and I can’t wait for Saturday so I can start using it officially!

I love all of your decor! The inside of my home had been decorated for about 3 weeks now. I cannot wait to decorate the outside (HOA is a bugger sometimes!)

Thanks, Raina! One of my friends was telling me her HOA was giving her a hard time about white lights she left up year-round on her garage for light. They definitely are a pain!

With the help of my mom I’ve gathered a whole lot more Halloween decor this year, I’m still finishing the placement of everything but I’d love to send you some pics for your opinion!

Absolutely! I’m still shuffling some of my things around to find a good home for them. That’s kind of the nice thing about decorating early – gives you time to perfect it.

Thank you so much, Cynthia! That’s so sweet of you to say.

I wrote a post last year that shows my formula for decorating, if you want to check it out for your own decor: https://spookylittlehalloween.com/2015/10/01/my-9-favorite-halloween-decorating-ideas/

My best suggestion is pick two or three “things”, like pumpkins or skulls or lights, and work them throughout your whole house. :)

I noticed recently I’ve been in love with bats so I’m trying to keep to that theme and include bits and pieces like pumpkins, but I need some inspiration so thanks for the link to the article!

Btw, I just subscribed to your newsletter and noticed that you’re in Houston, TX. I’m in San Antonio, TX! :)

Thank you, Karen! My bedroom is definitely my favorite – I think this year inspired me to change up my bedroom art year-round, which I’m excited about.
