Halloween Mixtape: Spooky Little Summer

?>

I LOVE Halloween music. I get a little bit obsessive about it - half the playlists I've created or saved on my Spotify account are Halloween ones. I love digging up new albums and playlists to listen to each year in hopes of finding a gem or two for my personal ultimate Halloween playlist.

As of summer 2021, my ultimate Halloween playlist boasts 900+ songs and clocks in at just over 39 hours.

I’m not kidding. I. LOVE. HALLOWEEN. MUSIC.

I started listening to that monster playlist a few weeks ago to pick out tunes for my 2016 Halloweenie Roast, my annual Halloween party. Instead, I’ve been finding little clusters of tunes to pull out into smaller playlists.

One of those playlists includes all the 1960s garage, surf and kitsch rock songs. Despite my millennial status, I grew up listening to the oldies radio station, and my summers usually beg for these sunshiney pop tunes I adore.

This summer, however, I’ve been into a darker vibe – lots of goth and new wave playlists full of the likes of The Smiths, Depeche Mode and Siouxsie and the Banshees. So I decided, why not combine the two for a killer little Halloween playlist?

Do you make Halloween playlists?

I’d love to hear about your process, what kind of songs you look for or what is your favorite Halloween song.
