How to Get Ready For Halloween…Now!

?>

Halloween is still months away, but that doesn’t mean you can’t start getting ready for the most wonderful day of the year right now.

It’s not exaggeration that my planning for the next Halloween often begins before the current year’s holiday has passed. By September of each year even though I’m in the thick of it for my party in October…I’m already thinking forward to the NEXT year’s theme.

Whether you’re hosting a party or just want to dress up in a killer costume this year, why not get started right now?

Here’s a few ways to do just that:

Plan a party

Always want to go to a Halloween party but never get an invite? Plan your own! There’s more than enough time to start working on one, no matter how big or small you make it. Start thinking about it today so the ideas and inspiration can flow over the next several months!

Pick a party theme

Already hosting a party? I’m of the opinion that every good party needs a theme – a little something to tie it all together. Maybe your theme is as simple as “Halloween”. Maybe it’s as elaborate as “1920s haunted speakeasy”. Whether you pick, make it something fun that you’re excited about to keep your momentum going throughout the year in planning.

Then it’s easy to do things like come up with a color scheme that ties things together, fun food and cocktail ideas that speak to the theme and even makes way for fun details that make the party unique.

Need some inspiration? I’ve got you covered.

Plan your group costume

Remember back on Halloween when you and your friends talked about how awesome it’d be to do that clever group costume? Why not start working on it now? Often the hardest part of a group costume is getting everyone to agree on one – by starting now, you’re giving yourself plenty of time plus a major head start!

Looking for ideas for a group costume? I’ve got some saved right here.

Start working on your own costume

The best costumes are homemade. Historically, my Halloweenie Roast costume contest winners have always been the friends who handmade their costumes, rather than opting for a pre-made $70 one from a chain store.

But homemade costumes don’t have to be tons and tons of work. Sometimes, all it takes is searching for the right elements to bring it all together. It took me three months to pull together my Janet Weiss costume for my Rocky Horror Picture Show-themed Halloweenie Roast in 2013, but I absolutely nailed her look.

Again, by starting on your costume now, you’re giving yourself plenty of time to find every last piece to make it perfect – and maybe even take home first prize in a contest.

Clean out your Halloween stash

When you’re a Halloween junkie like me, you acquire quite the collection of party supplies and decor. And every few years, I parse through things and set aside a few items that are broken beyond repair or have remained unused. It helps keep my collection more cohesive…and allows me to make space for new goodies in the coming Halloween season! Plus…isn’t spring cleaning your Halloween stash way more fun than, say, spring cleaning your closet?

Make a pumpkin snack

Call me a basic white girl, but I do love a yummy pumpkin treat now and again. My mom’s pumpkin cookies hold the no. 1 spot on my list, but it’s always fun to try new goodies!

Lucky for you, I’ve squirreled away a whole bunch of recipes to try.

Research Halloween cocktails

And by research, I clearly mean you need to taste test! I’m always looking for ideas for a new or unique Witches’ Brew for my next Halloween party, and I keep an eye out for recipes. When I threw my “Goodbye to the Roaring 20s” themed 30th birthday, Planter’s Punch was high on the list for Witches’ Brew possibilities that year.

Have a little fun by mixing up some brews throughout the year for your friends or family to try with you.

Here are four of my very favorites I’ve tried over the years.

Read a Halloween blog

If you’re reading a Halloween blog in January…you’re obviously a junkie like me! Get your fix by following Spooky Little Halloween all year long for more tricks and treats. You can also check out some of my favorite Halloween bloggers:
