I love coming up with Halloween party themes. Since 2011, I’ve been assigning themes to Halloweenie Roast, my annual Halloween party, and encouraging my guests to “costume up” accordingly. And boy, have they done so! From Harry Potter to Rocky Horror, my friends have gone above and beyond, impressing me every single year with their creativity.

But I have to admit, I think this year’s Witches’ Ball theme might have been my own favorite for one simple reason: I got to bust out my rusty crafty skills and get super creative putting together my own witch hat for the ball.

Today, see how I took all the items pictured above and turned them into…

I absolutely LOVE it.

When I bought the hat, it already had some decor on it, like this tulle flower. But I definitely embellished it for extra sparkle and pizzazz! I kind of went the glam witch route with my hat.

It only took two weekends and about five stores to find THE perfect light-up jack-o-lantern for my hat. I bought two other options, but this guy ended up being the winner. He was a little difficult to keep out of my face most of the night and ended up coming slightly detached…but I plan to use my hat as general home decor moving forward, and he’ll do just fine for that.

I totally lucked out finding a ton of floral picks that matched my hat exactly.

I added these black flowers around the base of the hat and cut the black glitter leaves off another piece to add a little extra detail.

The tulle was the worst part to deal with (I ended up with the single worst hot glue gun burn I’ve ever had in my life), but the effect definitely paid off. Especially after I sprayed it down with glitter.

The tip-top of my hat was my favorite detail. Those twirl sprigs added a lot of whimsy to the whole hat.

Witch hat complete! Shown off with a no-face selfie. (Which begs the question: is it still a selfie if your face isn’t in the photo?)

That is one cool witch hat! I have zero craft ability so I content myself admiring other people’s efforts.
