Hey, I’m Miranda.
I’m a writer, blogger and Halloween lover from Houston, TX, and I’m the girl behind Spooky Little Halloween.
For as long as I can remember, I have loved escaping into other worlds through literature and music. It’s part of why I became a writer – so I could create my own worlds when life gets to be too much.
It’s also why Halloween became my favorite holiday. As a little girl, I was enchanted with the idea of dressing up in costume and roaming the neighborhood to trick-or-treat with my friends. For one night a year, it was my chance to step into character and be someone else. And it always felt magical.
That magic has stayed with me every October 31st.
These days I keep that feeling alive by hosting my annual party, Halloweenie Roast. What started as a humble backyard weenie roast with four friends has grown into a full-fledged celebration complete with themes, costume contests and even a signature cocktail only served once a year. We have so much fun that friends have been known to cross state lines via car and plane to attend. (Yes, really.)
My love for Halloween goes beyond just a party, though. I’ve always loved the squish of pumpkin guts between my fingers and the fiery grin of a freshly carved jack-o-lantern. I’m a night owl who feels more at home basking in the glow of moon and stars than a blaze of sunshine. And I’ve always been intrigued by the origins of Halloween – a celebration of the one night of the year when spirits can slip through the veil and re-enter our world.
Halloween is a night of full of magic and possibility that excites me to no end.
Halloween isn’t my only love. I’m an avid reader who owns enough books to fill five shelves in my little 1920s apartment. I’m a Gilmore Girls aficionado with a Gilmorism at the ready for any situation.
In my previous blogger life, I wrote about my love of music, following bands and how to be a good fan over at The Good Groupie. I love football and was raised a die-hard Green Bay Packers fan. And I balance out my addiction to binging TV shows with my addiction to knitting. You can read more about me here.
When I’m not doing all these things, I spend my days working in a marketing and communications department at a nonprofit where I write and manage content for print publications, our website, emails and more.
I love getting to know fellow Halloween lovers, so don’t be shy – say hello!
