Have you decorated for Halloween yet? I have! One of my favorite parts of the Halloween season is pulling out all my favorite decor and transforming my apartment from cozy and quaint to cozy and spooky.
And when you’re a Halloween blogger, one of the questions you get asked a lot is…how do you decorate for Halloween?
In my book, there is no right or wrong way. You just add spookiness wherever you feel like, and you’re good to go! But sometimes a guide is helpful, so today I’m going to show you three super easy ways to decorate for Halloween using just five items.
This is great if you’re on a budget and can only afford a few Halloween items or you’re just starting your Halloween decor collection.
It’s also great if you’re like me and have the need to totally re-imagine how you’re displaying your Halloween decor.
By the way, if you haven’t dropped by a Spirit Halloween yet…go. Now. I am seriously impressed with how much they’ve upped their Halloween decor game! There’s so much more to enjoy than just costumes and scary animatronics this year.
Here are my three easy ways to decorate for Halloween:
These are the first items I’m using in this post. All five can be found at Spirit Halloween.
Just in case you see an item you can’t live without, here are the links:

Halloween Front Door
We’ll start with the entrance to your home! In my case, that’s the interior door to my apartment in my walk-up building.
Those boo tiered pumpkins lend themselves SO well to framing a door. From there, I layered in the other items plus some pumpkins (real!) I purchased separately.
That yellow pumpkin was actually purchased in September 2016 – no, that’s not a typo. He’s held on for over a year!
This wreath pairs so beautifully with my black and white door! I think it will also look great on my door in my Halloween bedroom.
Piling up pumpkins is one of my default ways to decorate around my front door. Plus…I can leave them there through the end of November!
The black glitter pumpkin is nice and lightweight, so it’s easy to move around and rest at different angles no matter where you display it.
Super simple, cute front door setup, right?
Halloween Kitchen Table Centerpiece
If you prefer to keep your decor indoors, your kitchen is a great – and different – spot to make spooky with these items.
I created this little vignette on my kitchen table using just three of the items.
Here’s my secret to vignettes: if you can’t buy a lot or just have a few items, pay attention to the height of everything. If you can pair one tall item, one medium height item and one small item together…you are golden. It instantly makes your decor look more put together. (Thank you to my spooky ghoul Emily for teaching me that trick!)
Finding items with different textures – in this case, glass, plastic and fabric/sequins – is also an easy way to pull together a vignette! I did add the creepy cloth for a bit of extra texture and to contrast from my table top.
I know not everyone lives in a tiny apartment like me and has their kitchen table pushed up against a wall. For those, you could simplify this look to just the light up bottle and pumpkin with the cloth – less height for a table used every day, but still enough spook to make it feel like Halloween while you enjoy your morning coffee!
Halloween Living Room
My living room is one of my favorite spaces to decorate for Halloween. I am forever feeling like I don’t have enough space for my decor, but with just five items…that feeling is simplified!
(That said, you will get a sneak peek at some of my other Halloween decor in these photos since I had already decorated…)
The light up bottle found a home on one of my bookshelves. I love adding lighted items to my shelves because it brightens my space and gives the entire room a soft, creepy glow – perfect for October!
You’ll see I followed my height rule and paired this bottle with a little witch I picked up several years ago at a craft show.
The black glitter pumpkin found a home in my TV tray on my coffee table. Normally this space is home to a few stacked books and a silver skull, but I thought the pumpkin complemented the tray colors perfectly.
And finally, I decided to frame my TV with the boo tiered pumpkins. Normally, I have two skinny hot pink vases on each side, and I fully intended to replace the white flowers in them with black ones…but I’m kind of totally in love with this setup instead! I feel like those pumpkins round out the full Halloween scene I created on a whim here.
Can you guess what movie I had on when I took this? Here’s a hint. (I want it all!)
Which Halloween decorating idea is your favorite?
I’d love to hear which setup you like the best…or how you would use these items in your spooky home! Share in the comments.
