Halloween decor has arrived in stores! And just in case you’ve been living under a rock or haven’t had a chance to visit a store yet, you can check out my Halloween hunting series for sneak peeks at the stores I’ve already visited.
While I try not to play favorites for that series I, of course, have a handful of stores I am always most excited to visit for Halloween goods.
Today I’m rounding up my faves for you, telling you what makes them my favorites and sharing my favorite item I’ve bought there in recent years.
My favorite places to buy Halloween decor:
Michaels is where I do most of my Halloween DIY and decor purchasing. They always have fun decor that fits my taste, a wide array of DIY supplies and, best of all, the best deals. I watch their emails and app coupons like a hawk in September and October, waiting until I can get the best deal possible on my Halloween treasures.
The fuzzy black and white skull pillow was my first – and secondfavorite – purchase of Halloween 2016, and it has found its home in my bedroom all year long. Good news – it’s also in this year collection!
At Home is a Halloween wonderland I am grateful to have. While not everything might be my taste, I love wandering aisle after aisle of Halloween goodies. They’re usually one of the first stores in my area to get Halloween, and it’s a moment I look forward to every summer as the official countdown to my favorite holiday begins.
I fell in LOVE with this candy corn throw pillow last year. It is so simple, yet so stinkin’ cute. Of course, when I went back for it…it was gone. My mom came to the rescue and surprised me with one! Can’t wait to put it out in my living room again this year.
I think we can all agree HomeGoods has the BEST Halloween decor around. A lot of the items are unique and usually one-of-a-kind…by which I mean stores don’t usually carry a huge stock of the same item. I like that because I like having things no one else does! Plus, it makes Halloween hunting there feel more like a true treasure hunt.
This dancing skeleton mug seemed to be the must-have among my spooky friends on Instagram last year. While I love mine for Saturday morning coffee all year long, I’ve also found it’s great for a couple scoops of pumpkin ice cream in the fall.
Jo-Ann Fabrics and Crafts
Craft stores tend to be my favorite haunts for Halloween because of the possibilities they hold. Not only are there endless aisles of decor; there are also endless ideas for DIY projects. I always love wandering Jo-Ann stores, looking for Halloween treats…and ideas.
Of course, that said, my favorite items in recent years have been their Halloween sock collection. Yup, really.
I’d be remiss if I left Target off the list because Halloween lovers who don’t wait for the very second they put their Halloween collection out on shelves. While my love for their decor has waned just a bit in the last few years (it feels a lot more childish overall than most other collections), I still get just as excited as everyone else when the seasonal back corner of the store changes over from back to school to Halloween.
It seems everything “favorite” on this list is coming from 2016 – I found some GOOD Halloween goodies last year. From Target, I managed to find the holy grail – their spirit board serving tray.
Finally, Zulily has become one of my recent favorites. It takes some digging, and you have to be ready to buy as soon as you find a treasure…but the site is a treasure trove of Halloween goodness these days. I love the cutesy vintage vibe a lot of their pieces have.
I scored this Halloween tea towel just a few weeks ago, and I’m in LOVE with it. Can’t wait to put it in my kitchen when I decorate for Halloween this year!
And last, but certainly not least, is Spirit – the store we all get excited about when we see those black and yellow signs pop up. They have me really excited this year because if you’ve taken a peek online…you’ve already seen how much decor they have in their 2017 collection! I’m dying to see it all in person.
This is my mini-haul from last year. I couldn’t resist those Ouija Board coasters, which have stayed out all year in my living room. (I live dangerously…) I was also thrilled to finally grab one of those “Support Halloween” ribbons – it lives on my freezer door all year.

I’d love to hear in the comments!
