10 Random Facts About the Girl Behind spookylittlehalloween.com: So you read Spooky Little Halloween, the blog celebrating October 31st all year long, but do you know the girl behind the blog? Get to know Miranda! | spookylittlehalloween.com

So you read spookylittlehalloween.com. Maybe you follow the blog accounts on social media. You might even subscribe to the weekly newsletter, Treats Not Tricks.

But do you know the girl behind the blog?

I didn’t think so. Let’s change that.

Hey, I’m Miranda, and I run Spooky Little Halloween. By being on this site already, you obviously know I’m a Halloween lover through and through. I mean, you don’t just start up a year-round hobby blog all about a holiday if you don’t love it to your core, right?

Here’s a few of my fave things about Halloween season:

  • carving jack-o-lanterns
  • dressing up in costumes
  • creating killer Halloween-themed playlists
  • planning and hosting my annual party, Halloweenie Roast

(While we’re at it, you can also check out the four things that make me the worst Halloween fan ever. Please read and laugh.)

You can read more about me, why I love Halloween and my background on my about page, but today I wanted to take a step away from Halloween and share some totally random facts to help you get to know me a little better!

Here are 10 random facts about me:

10 Random Facts About the Girl Behind spookylittlehalloween.com: So you read Spooky Little Halloween, the blog celebrating October 31st all year long, but do you know the girl behind the blog? Get to know Miranda! | spookylittlehalloween.com

1. I’m an iced coffee addict

Hazelnut, vanilla, lavender, black, cold brew…I love it all. Even when it’s 40 degrees, aka “winter” here in Texas, you’ll find me sipping my morning joe iced down.

2. My closet would be empty without…

A black dress. Actually, more like 10 black dresses. Appropriate for a Halloween blogger, no? It is the uniform I feel most comfortable in. I change them up based on the season with accessories, shoes and cardigans, but I would be lost without at least one in my closet.

3. My Target hot spot is the beauty dept. clearance shelf

I have to walk by it every time I shop just in case I find a gem or two, like several bottles of my favorite shampoo and conditioner for half price. (Scored those two weekends ago!)

4. The one book I could read for the rest of my life is…

“Perks of Being a Wallflower” by Stephen Chbosky. It is an absolutely perfect coming of age story for my generation, and I’ve never met a protagonist as endearing as Charlie. I adore him.

5. I’ve seen my favorite band 40 times in 11 cities across 6 states

That’s over the course of the past 20 years, with most of those adventures taking place from 2003 -2013. What band? Probably not one you’d expect from a Halloween lover. For that info, you’ll have to bribe me with a Halloween goodie. 😉

6. My dance-around-in-my-underwear song is…

“Firework” by Katy Perry. Or really anything by Katy Perry. This act most often happens in the morning as I’m getting ready for work.

7. I’ve spent 3,000+ hours of my life watching Gilmore Girls*

Just to put into perspective how many hours that equals: if you work 40 hours per week for 52 weeks a year…that’s only 2,080 hours. I love the humor and wit, and I identify with the family dynamics. It’s my favorite show ever.

And because I know you fellow Gillies will ask…I loved “A Year in the Life” right down to those final four words. I could not think of a more perfect ending for the Gilmore’s story. (We can discuss it in the comments.)

*This is not a hyperbolic statement. I have literally watched the entire series, start to finish, somewhere between 25-30 times since it debuted in 2000.

8. But my guilty pleasure TV show is…

The Real Housewives of Anywhere. Yup. I watch ’em all – no apologies. I’d like to argue I find grown women screaming at each other over things like game night or dinner party seating assignments intriguing because I’ve always been interested in how people communicate and interact…but it just sounds like a lot of BS, right? Everyone needs one mindless TV show. The Housewives are mine. The end.

9. I understand people better when I know their zodiac sign

How they act and what they say makes so much more sense if I know they’re a Capricorn, not a Gemini, and so on. I know astrology isn’t the definitive system for personality traits, but I find it’s a very helpful starting point. (For the record, I’m a Taurus.)

10. Three random things in my Netflix queue right now:

  1. “Alice Through the Looking Glass” – A recent Tim Burton film I’m excited to watch, despite the lackluster reviews
  2. “The Originals” – I’m a sucker for TV shows set in Louisiana. I love their gothic feel. (But I haven’t seen any of “The Vampire Diaries”.)
  3. “The Shining” – Because I’ve never seen it. I KNOW. I KNOW. (I righted this wrong March 10, 2017!)

So there you go – 10 totally random things about the girl behind SLH.

What one random thing do you want to know about me still?

Leave a question in the comments, and I’ll answer it. (Or tell me how much you love Gilmore Girls too so we can discuss the ending.)

    Hi Miranda,

I really enjoy and appreciate your passion for Halloween. It’s fair to say that you speak for so many of us that love that spooky time of year as well. I wanted to share two of the many bands that I have been a fan from their beginnings relating to “Spooky” or “Halloween”. One is Midnight Syndicate and the other is The Birthday Massacre. I hope you like their work as I have for so many years. Anyway, I am huge fan of yours, so Thank You!!!

YAS! I love finding new Halloween music, thank you David! I’ve listened to a few things by Midnight Syndicate and dig them, but I have not heard of The Birthday Massacre before. Time to run off to Spotify and listen!

Thank you so much for all the kind words and for sharing!

Dying to know your favorite band!! :P Mine is Hootie and the Blowfish, which totally doesn’t fit my personality at all. I just love how summery their songs are. When they do a reunion tour, I’ll be there!!

I came of age in the boy band era of late-90s music, and I was in love with one of the only groups that put the “band” into boy band. :) If that gives you any hints.

I’m a major bookworm, so I’d love to know some books you like to read/have read lately. Hopefully some spooky ones make the list??

Hey Sandra! I am fully intending to do some spooky book posts throughout the year – a lot of what I enjoy is thriller/suspense, mystery, crime and ghost stories. During my holiday vacation I read “The Girl on the Train” which was awesome. (Haven’t seen the movie yet.) It definitely kept me guessing, and just when I thought I had it figured out…I was wrong. :)

I also enjoy the Graveyard Queen series by Amanda Stephens. I believe there are four books total now, but I’ve only read the first three. You’ll likely have to order it online (Amazon has it!), but it is an awesome series about a woman who restores graveyards for a living and also happens to be able to see ghosts.

Funny, I am a Taurus too-maybe that explains the shared love of Gilmore Girls (also my favorite and most watched show) and the Real Housewives (I stick to BH and OC though).

Thanks for the year long Halloween pick me up!

I feel ya on No. 8! I can’t get enough of the RHo… I watch them all, but New Jersey and Atlanta have to be my favorites.

I’d love to know what band you’ve seen 40 times, because that’s awesome!! That’s the beauty of music. ❤️

That’s a tough one, Rain! I’m a music lover, and I adore so many of the pop bands from the 60s. I think it would have been fun to be a teenager in that decade to experience the music. I also love the 1920s – so many great American writers alive and publishing amazing books then…and the chance to wear all those gorgeous flapper dresses would have been awesome.

      Thanks for reading!

I love Target’s clearance beauty shelf too, lol. And iced coffee oh god I miss it! I can’t drink it with the medicine I’m on and it’s killer. The Originals is A+ and I really wanna know what your favorite band is, lol!

What a bummer about iced coffee – but that will make it that much better when you can have it again, right? :)

Fave band…message me somewhere and I’ll share.

I love coffee, too. The first one must be hot so I make 2 and freeze one for later. Both are Bullet Proof so I can pretend I have to have them for my health!

I was a hardcore scare Halloween nut for most of my life, but over the past few years, that has fallen away and I have a huge appreciation for Halloween cute. All thing “spoopy”! On the other hand, I still love horror!

I’ve been meaning to watch the Gilmore Girls for a while. I guess now is as good a time as any!

Random and I totally understand if you don’t want to share but I’ve always wondered what you do for a living (Besides live and breathe Halloween)! You’re so creative- it’s got to be something that uses your creativity right?!

Hello, new BFF! :) Someday maybe I’ll do Halloween full-time, but for now I work in a marketing and communications department for a nonprofit. I oversee our website, email marketing and serve as the in-house copyeditor. I went to school with the intention of being a journalist, so I’m thrilled I get to use those skills to serve a great organization…and share my love of Halloween online.
